Thanks for the info. That some type of change was made to the course can be seen reflected in the times.
see the Nuttycombe thread - course was routed very different.

Billy Mills won gold, but that doesn't mean that he had a better overall career. However, I wouldn't slight him in any way, because I admire him a great deal.
Pre was certainly among the best in the world. He went for the victory in 1972, was pushed back by Viren on the last turn, and faded to finish 4th. By any measure, 4th in the Olympic 5000m puts you among the best in the world. He was competing without sponsorship and in poverty against government-sponsored runners from Europe, some of whom were blood doping, as eventually came out when they finally checked for it--and that was the end of the Finnish dynasty in distance running. Pre was also a good deal more consistent than Viren, who competed incredibly rarely--but on the very highest level in 1972 and 1976. In 1975, when Pre died, he was just 25 and at his best, so he may well have medaled in 1976. In other words, he still had plenty of promise and attaining all the American records in an era where Americans weren't competing on a fast European circuit yet and in which Americans were medalling and competitive throughout the distances (Shorter 1972 gold in the marathon, sixth(?) in the 10000, Wohlhuter 2:13.9 1000m and competitive at 800/1500, Wottle gold in the 800m), is a significant accomplishment.
4th in an Olympic final rates nowhere near gold. Do you recall who came 4th in Mill's final - or any other final, for that matter? Mills had a shorter career than Pre but reached a greater height. Like many Americans you are persuaded that a good national level runner was better than he was. Pre was nowhere near the level of Dick Quax, for example, who took silver just behind Viren in '76 and also later broke the 5k wr - neither of which Pre came near to achieving. And then, of course, there was Wottle. Seriously, Pre is the most overrated runner ever discussed here.
Most don't have a registered name. It makes it easier for people to track you if you use a registered name.

I will, after she beats Chelangat by 40 seconds!
Wow, you NAILED it!
Valby 18:25.87
Chelangat 18:33.65
7.78 seconds
Gatorbite don’t know shiiiit!
Overall times aside (let’s not even look at those).
Valby is FAST…
In today’s SEC race, she defeated Chelangat by 8 seconds (regardless of the overall times and course).
Tuohy defeated Chelangat by 12 seconds (in a 5k).
Imagine visually a race with Chelangat in the race. Now visualize Valby 8 seconds of her. Makes sense, right? (It literally just happened today).
Now picture Tuohy 4 seconds ahead of Valby. Makes sense.
I was at the race in Charlottesville today. I was very impressed as to how dominant Touhy was in victory. She was not the least pressed the first 3.5k and quickly moved away from the field and her excellent teammate. It looked like she was barely stressed at the 5k at 16:06 and asked the NC State contingent if she really was running that easy. They said no, she is tired but at the same time they said she had some more in the tank. Impressed
She does look strong. Seems to be on a mission this year.
How do women get that muscular?

Finally, view Cook 5 seconds ahead of Tuohy.
Yea on easier courses though!
I'll take Tuohy's time minus 30 seconds.
Bet?

According to astro it's from peds and a long history of doping.
That SEC course was fast but not easy.
Valby in particular was having considerable trouble with the turns.
Watch the video. Personally I think the Stillwater course will be better for her.
Yes. The OK State course has nice sweeping turns. The tight turns hurt her more than the slower runners.
