This is not a "republican hates everything democrat" thing. Besides the potential negative impact on inflation, it's simply not fair to bail out people who made lousy financial decisions while doing nothing for people who choose not to take on debt they couldn't afford to repay.
TBH, if this was fair, people without college debt should get a check equal to the average of the individual debt being wiped out. According to a quick google search that average is somewhere between $28K and $32K. So, for those of us not carrying college debt, we should get a check for $30K. People who get their debt wiped away get nothing.

People love to pretend that all of these discussions about access to higher education have to do with the civic good. They're not. It's about individuals trying to outcompete other people for credentials so they get a socioeconomic advantage.
Pouring roughly half trillion dollars of gasoline on the inflationary fire that is already burning is reckless. Doing it while going well beyond one campaign promise ($10K of student loan relief) and breaking another (all proposals paid for) is even worse.

Absolutely we need more IRS agents to enforce the tax laws. Why should honest tax paying citizen pay the share of taxes for those who are cheating? Talk about not fair! How could any honest minded citizen be against this?
However as far as the other topic, I am very much against this cowardly and lying group of Republicans running for office, but I this this loan forgiveness plan is a very very poor plan. (I identified my strong reasons for this in another post.) I am not a Republican and I do care about poor people. We can do much better than this plan. Biden caved to the more radical progressives.

Excellent point. Our government has set up the system and the rules that have allowed some to make a great deal of money. If they find it has created an increasing imbalance of wealth why shouldn't alter some of the rules they established to create a more fairer distribution of wealth?
