I think I can give some clues as to why. I have evidence that Dave and Terrie did try to use various people at the RAF to help promote their LEJOG (one example being one of Dave's superiors). But I haven't seen any publicity material out of the RAF or direct members of the RAF promoting Dave's LEJOG so it's an indication that the RAF members were already aware of Dave's reputation. However, it's not a conclusive indication since I didn't try contacting anyone at the RAF because there is no other evidence to suggest they did anything other than to ignore Dave and Terrie. I don't believe I will try to contact people at the RAF but if you are curious, you are in a better position to ask questions and get an answer since you were part of the RAF, unlike me. I would be curious to hear their thoughts if you are able to get some comments on what happened.
Same as you, I'm out of it, I discharged from the RAF and moved to Australia, those RAF runners I mentioned were a long time ago. As you will be aware the RAF Association is a charity and totally separate entity to the government (obviously) run RAF and I can feel fairly confident you won't get any co-operation out of either of them to comment on Reading for obvious reasons. Must say it is odd that when you go to his Virgin Money Giving page the sum shown is zero for RAFA, so something going on there.
My main point was no one, not one single person has identified themselves and defended him, despite him and wife going on about trolling/cyberbullying etc, not as part of an organization, not as an individual, no one, not a mate, former military mate and work colleague, Hockering village resident, fellow runner, etc, no one. It just seems odd, especially as there are plenty who do know him and are prepared to rubbish him such as All we get is people identifying themselves to rubbish him such Joe the Driver, Neil the Coach, Mark the Photographer, Andrew the WWTW rep, etc. Then there's those who have had dealings with them but just give a no comment when they could be defending them.
I think these two are whistling in the wind.

I think the point is that if we all adopt an attitude of turning a blind eye, then society really has gone down the pan. Why a running forum? Well the hijacking of the sport with the excuse that charity means that rules don't apply affects every runner of whatever ability who takes it seriously.
Your second point I actually agree with - I'm sure that all charities set out with the noblest of intentions and have a majority of people whose motives are pure and altruistic but I have had it related to me and had discussions with people who see it purely as a business and people who donate and/or give their time freely as commodities to exploit.

The infantile plot of these two cheeky chancers has been brought to heel though , and for the sake of their family, will be a lesson learned and not to be repeated.
The dilly-dallying, lack of action of London Marathon officials is perplexing - and reflects a degree of incompetence incongruent with an event of this stature.

Right, but in my initial reply to you I set the context and boundaries. We can always do the "But the Nazis were worse" type of response to any wrong-doing but that is a false argument because it assumes that any crime less than theirs should not result in any punishment or even disapproval.

If you have a look at the Google Folder Screenshots you'll see Terrie's Facebook reply to Mark Karthauser:
"Our evidence is here"
"You have already said Dave faked his watch data from London 2016 without even seeing it"
"Dave did not cheat and we can prove it"
"No money was stolen from any charity and we can prove it"
Just one problem Terrie, no one's seen the proof and evidence.
Also, if those quotes above turn out like this one:
"Dave has run several marathons as you know and NEVER cheated"
they've got problems because he was found guilty of lying and cheating and DQ'ed, then there's the lying about the 3:12 several times, even on video.

This thread is to out this pair as scamming thieves, therefore questioning the disappearance of 5 grand is VERY relevant.
That money was donated in good faith, and NOT to the back pocket of those two fraudsters.

They haven't learned their lesson. They have just created a new LEJOG scam for next April. Most likely going after more money and sponsors.

Wrapping up one aspect of this investigation, Sealskinz have deleted all mention of Dave Reading from their website and Facebook page for selecting him to be a sponsored ultra runner (I have screenshots). I believe this happened some time after the July 1st/2nd 70 mile XNRG off road race that Sealskinz sponsors and where Dave Reading was a no show.
I know that many of us here have sent Sealskinz Facebook messages and emails but I don't think any of us ever received a response. My last email to Sealskinz was about a week before the XNRG race and I sent it to the email of the Sealskinz marketing assistant that Terrie posted on her Instagram page a long time back.
As part of the Sealskinz sponsorship for Dave, it was required that he must have done the XNRG race. In return, he got a whole bunch of Sealskinz gear for training and would have had all his race and travel expenses covered. I wonder if Dave kept all that Sealskinz gear and is why he has that picture of him wearing the SealSkinz hat on his DaveReading website.
I will put this information into the investigation summary for the next update.
