Nothing wrong with making a buck. The guy's done a lot of sleuthing and spent a quite a bit of time cataloging our disorganized and many-threaded discussions.

The story is out there so it's not like loosing out on a scoop. If they really have pursued Kip for an interview Kip knows what magazine it is so they aren't preventing the possibility of an injunction or something like that. Give any of the RDs who have DQed Kip a call on the phone (as I have) and you will get an earfull about the man. Most of them are furious that Kip made such a blantant mockery of their race.

I imagine the hold up on publishing the article has to do with the inability of getting an interview with Kip. I was told directly by one of the RDs that the author of the article wanted to interview Kip and Kip wasn't not really cooperating.

But in the end the article will not really do much in the running world since it is not a running magazine. That isn't also to say that there might be other articles in the works, or that everything that is being done is always talked about in this thread. It really would be nice if it were being published in Runnersworld or Running Times.

The best thing to do is keep the pressure on Kip and when we find he is racing somewhere, inform the RD of that race that the man has a history of cheating and to contact the other RDs who have DQed the man if they want to get the story on the man.

The point the people who have OCD about the article (along with a bad case of conspiracy theory nuttiness) don't get is that an article will change nothing. Even among hard-core runners I speak to who totally get the issues in this thread all I get when I outline the basics of Kip's cheating is "Why?", among non-runners it just doesn't begin to mean anything. The story in this thread is amazing and that is good enough. Why does the thread continue? Because he's not going to stop and anyone who believes the "I am sorry" trolls and other nonsense must have a room temperature IQ.

I don't agree. Especially if the article comes out in a large magazine that isn't a running magazine then more articles are sure to be written in running mags.

BTW I think this would be a great piece for Psychology Today, circulation of 102,000.

Kip graduated in 1981 I believe. His brother Kurt graduated in 1983. Those may be off by one year but they are close.

I think you're missing the point that what some of us (me at least) are more interested that there is something permant written about this clown, not that there will be anything new in it. It would be nice to have it in less than 2500 posts though. But if the biggest cheat in road-running history never gets exposed in a written piece, that will be a shame. And as good a job as people have done exposing him on here and used this thread as a semi-permanent record, it's neither readable nor permanent. It's 128 screens of anonymous stuff- some fascinating, some trash, but nothing that approaches the value of a clearly laid out piece, with a real writer on the byline, and the credibility of a magazine/editorial staff behind it.

No, I'm certainly not missing that bit but isn't that done by trying to influence for example the Boston Race Director? Will an article do that? Arguable, but shouldn't evidence presented do that.

The business/ home locations listed for Kip are slightly inaccurate. His wife lives in the house in Clarkston. His kid is with Hospice. Kip now has an an apartment in Holly, which is between Clarkston and Davison.

Does Kent still live in Chicago or does anyone know where he currently lives?

Not sure I follow. You're saying that the boston race director will have influence in leading to an article coming out? Not sure how that works, or how it fits with the repeated assertions that it is just Kip's unwillingness to talk that is holding it up. Also, not sure what instrumental role Steve Cram had that led to either the DQ of that bozo or the press. From what I read of it he was quickly found out, it was cut and dry, and the media reported it. Nice of Cram to hand out the third place award, but I saw nothing that suggested without him the guy would have gotten away with it.

That I don't know. I didn't ask the person who told me that, but it is the reason why he did that Gasparilla (sp?) race combo.

Kip is doing very well money wise, that is probably why he does all this cheating in running. He has to find some challenge in life.

No, what he is saying is that Boston is aware of Kip's cheating.

Also an article coming out and then evidence of cheating in their race is going to look pretty bad.

Don't forget when most people think Boston, the next thought is Rosie Ruiz.

The Boston folks are aware of this as well.

I have a feeling Kip, if he runs Boston is not got going to play games with cutting the course of the 5K or Marathon, which he has done. He isn't going to risk getting banned from Boston, it is too much of an ego thing.

Besides he couldn't wear all those Boston clothes that he is seen wearing in the pictures on the SOKLR blog. Well that is assuming Kip has some capacity of shame.

Anyway, I am sure Kip reads this thread, my advice... run the whole race.

Lets agree to not comment any more and let this thread die until at least one or more of the following happens:

1. An article really does come out.

2. Kip runs a race

3. New evidence from a past race Kip cheated in is found.

4. SOKLR admits to all his aliases on this thread.
