so true.i remember running a HM 3 weeks before my fastest ever marathon and hoping for a PB...getting close but not quite and then telling myself after that i was just tired from marathon training.i wanted PB's in both races, but the latter ended up being true.i hope Rupp runs a fast HM a few months after the world champs this summer and just erases ryan hall's name from that record already

Ya not sure what happened with Rupp today. Either he's not in shape or just had a bad day. I was running in that Portland half when Rupp ran 61:30, that was an eaaaaasy tempo run for him. After the finish he continued back on the course at what looked like the same pace - he probably ran 20+ miles that day he jogged a 61:30....

Did Alberto fly Galen across the world to run a 1:02 tempo run?

No.

This race was to build Galen's confidence with a new American half-marathon record.

It turned into an 11th place DEBACLE which will hurt Galen's confidence.

Alberto has OVERTRAINED Galen with lots of 140 mile weeks…just like Alberto overtrained himself before his 1984 Olympic Marathon debacle... when he was beaten by Pete Pfitzinger.

Pete Pfitzinger went on to write some good books on training for distance runners.

This 11th place debacle for Galen comes after his last race…which was a 10th place debacle at a November 4.25 mile Turkey Trot race.

Alberto has already caused permanent damage to Galen's speed.

All of Galen's speed is now gone.

There is also a new development that is highly problematic:

Galen says that his FOOT HURTS NOW.

This could be an exacerbation of Galen's plantar FASCIITIS.

In conclusion:

Alberto may have just caused permanent damage to Galen's running career.

OTOH, until now, Rupp has been the least-injured native-born American at the top level, EVER. I am not a NOP fan but devil gets his due on this. Plus Hasay's improvement has to go in the "W" column for AlSal.

Galen is INJURED NOW IN THE PRESENT.

On the bright side, Jordan ran a new 1:07:55 half-marathon PR and was only beaten by 3:03 by Joyciline Jepkosgei (=14 seconds per mile, so Jordan would only be lapped 2x if the race was on the track. LOL.)

2017 is not going so well for Alberto.

3. Marilson Dos Santos 59:33

4. Ryan Hall and Antonio Pinto 59:43

I think at minimum he beats Farah's time and it would not shock me if he beat Cheboron's time, hopefully he dips under 59

Galen would of been lapped about 2x if this race had been on the track.

Jordan also would of been lapped about 2x if this race had been on the track, since she was 3:03 behind the winner.

Alberto's runners were very consistent in their performance.

Except anyone with a brain knows he is very capable of such a time. One poor performance doesn't change the fact that he is a world class talent at basically any distance.

One poor performance?

Galen had a 10th place finish at a Turkey Trot in his last race and now this 11th place finish.

That is TWO VERY BAD RACES IN A ROW FOR GALEN.

There is a high probability of a DNS or DNF for Galen at the Boston Marathon.

Then it will be THREE RACE DEBACLES IN A ROW FOR GALEN.

Alberto's running career had the EXACT SAME RACE DEBACLE PATTERN DEVELOP…as soon as Alberto started training as a "Marathon runner" with 140 mile weeks all the time.

Alberto overtrained, lost his speed, got injured, and his running career went into the toilet.

I hope Alberto does not REPEAT the same STUPID MISTAKES with Galen.
