analysis based on energy expenditure
mj ran 43.18 controlled flat-out with normal rt & best split differential i've seen of 0.74s when 1s is usually the aim for 21.22/21.96
watts split ~ 20.7/23.0 in semi with appalling rt of 0.35 when 0.15 - 0.2s wouda been expected
20.7/23.0 with same split differential of 0.74s ->21.37/22.11 for 43.48 & losing about 0.1s for easing off at the end
his time therefore wouda been ~ 43.40
now, factor in appalling rt of 0.35s, when he shouda expected upto 0.2s faster on any normal day ( you were allowed 2 false starts in those days iirc )
this gives splits of
20.5/23.0 for 43.5
20.5/23.0 with same split differential of 0.74s ->21.24/21.98 for 43.22 & losing about 0.1s for easing off at the end
his time therefore wouda been ~ 43.1+
given normal 0.15s - 0.2s rt & running 0.74s differential & running hard to the line
his semi run in terms of intrinsic energy expenditure was at the very worst on a par with mj's 43.18wr
