Another "fastest women's 6k xc time ever" on a certified championship course -- a hilly one, at that.
Jane's 18:42 from Gans Creek Classic last month was the prior fastest -- on the fastest xc course in America.
When NCAAs roll around next month at Gans Creek, will be fascinating to see if Jane continues to go hard from the gun in an attempt to break Lemngole/AL & Cherotich/OR.
I’m not impressed with their 1:23 spread though (compared to NC State’s approximately 32 second spread today).
BYU really needs Hutchins to get in there and help offset that if they’re going to have any chance against NC State at Natty’s.
Even with Hutchins, OR & NC State look better.
With OR now back at full strength today with the addition of their two Tokyo WCs entrants -- resulting in a near-sweep of B1Gs -- there's your title favorite.
As I am always trying to tell this board, Sadie was very well known in high school for xc.
- ranked #2 in the class of '25 for xc
- holds the Woodward Park XC course record in CA (ahead of Baxter, Lane, Hasay, Trotter etc and yes, this is the famous German Fernandez course)
- 4 time CA State xc champ
- 3 time CA Gatorade xc award winner
- 4 time NXN individual qualifier
- 2 time Foot Locker West winner
Ignoring track, Sadie Engelhardt was an exceptional hs xc runner. Her recent ncaa performance is not a surprise.
Concur.
Sadie's 16:24/5k CR at Woodward Park at last year's Clovis Invite should be recognized as one or the greatest individual race performances in hs xc history.
However, last fall -- then the following track seasons -- were all about Jane Hedengren, so Sadie was relegated to somewhat of an afterthought.
Given all this, one could say NC State recruited a "ringer."
So, agree, what Sadie has done so far is not a surprise.
Abdel Laadjel has made a huge jump since last year. I remember seeing him run the second heat of the 5k at BU when Strand, Wolfe, and Abdalla went below the 3k record. Abdalla won that second heat of the 5k, and Laadjel was maybe 5th, running 13:3xish. Seems Jerry's training works for some people for some time before they get injured.

nice side eye. But in this case, nobody is injured at Oregon as far as I can tell. Everyone is running, and clearly the training is working. How are those sour grapes funruns?
Can anyone confirm that Grace Hartman's slight struggling at the end today was due just to running out of gas a bit, rather than a flareup of the plantar issue she's dealt with?

No one here is going to have that insight except for maybe Tuffy unless the coach or Hartman speaks on it.
My working theory is based on what Henes' said in her interview on ACCN after the race that they "tried a couple of different things here, it worked really well for some people, maybe not so well for others". Im wondering if they were limit testing her fitness to see if she could handle a sub 19 pace if Hedengren takes off at nationals and thats why she put a big gap on the field today and she just hit a wall with about 1.5k to go and really bonked that last 400 or so leading to the stumble.

That was a very good race. But keep in mind Sadie ran a national high school xc championship 4 times and she never finished higher than 10th.
CBU depth is very good, combine that with a low stick ( Soca) and running without their #2 today. He gets back in the line up and I’m thinking top 10 at Nattys.

An even better strategy would be to just follow Captain Napoleon and her pacing. 😆
“As Napoleon goes, so goes NC State.”
😎
Saw an IG post of her roaring and flexing for the camera after her race. She is not someone I would tangle with in a dark alley 😄
Well, if she has a touch of Roy Keane in her, which I suspect she does, bottom line, she makes her teammates better and Henes' job easier. The words of a runner who's got her mind right:
Rewatched Big 12 stream. Overhead drone footage after men's race didn't indicate there was any drug testing tent or trailer. Inquired with a Colorado athlete who competed who said he didn't see any athletes get pulled for testing. Followed up with an Ok State athletes who confirmed the same.
I guess rumors that there would be testing at the meet were false as was the claimed "rush order for 12 tests in KC" or whatever it was.
They don’t run the back hills and cemetery hill anymore? That’s sad. The back hills are VCP.
They did the traditional course with back hills and cemetery. Myles broke the record on the legit course. True, Charlie Bevier ran 23:49 for 5 miles but 23:26 is a superior time.
Yes - they did traditional course yesterday with all the back hills and cemetery. Question - does anyone know if at IC4A two weeks ago if they did the same hard course with all the hills or was it modified/different course?
ACC Women The #1 NC State women’s 8-year ACC win streak was snapped last year but they returned to their winning ways today in dominant fashion. In a meet with six ranked teams, they won with just 28 points as #5 Notre Dame (89) was the only other team with less than 100. Individually, NC States’ Grace Hartmann had the lead mid-race but she was tracked down by teammate Angelina Napolean, the US steeplechase world team member, who took the individual title as NC State put five in the top 10 and six in the top 12.
Unanked North Carolina was as a surprising 3rd (127). They were getting votes but there were six ranked teams coming in.
(Our earlier post about the ACC meet had an error in it; we have deleted it. This was also accidentally posted in the HEPS XC thread so we have reposted it here.)
