Confirmed by Athletics Australia: https://www.olympics.com.au/news/andrew-buchanan-to-make-olympic-debut-replacing-injured-brett-robinson/there’s been quite a bit of chat and speculation (some of it pretty toxic) about...
Credit where credit is due. Well played Robbo. Great stuff. Go Andy!!!!! How bloody exciting for him.
Have to agree. Not a huge fan of Robinson (I've found his antics on his podcast with JTW to be childish and reflective of bullying) but well done to him for making the decision and even more plaudits for agreeing with AA/IOC to be the one who called Buchanan.
Back to Lisa - now Andy’s news has dropped, perhaps she was referring to that. A shame if so, as she’d do great at Paris. Keeping an eye on this one as nobody really knows if Sinead is injured, whereas with Brett it was public knowledge.
Brett outside of the FTK bubble seems to be a great guy. You can see it on display here with him calling Andy, and from other bits and pieces you hear, Brett seems to be as good a bloke as he is a runner. Just a shame that the vast majority of output from Brett comes alongside Joel.
Maybe this kind of thing was going on back in the day too with the Mona's and Deek's of past, but no one had a podcast and social media to air their good and bad opinions.
One certainly hopes the performances in Paris goes a long way to removing the bitter taste about the olympics thats been left so far with the actions from AA and some of the athletes.

I agree with this massively. I've genuinely liked Brett on every other podcast he's been on and interview he's given. Inside Running, Physical Performance Show etc.. He's a really honest and nice guy when he's not with Joel. I think Joel brings out the worst in him and is an incredibly toxic force in the Australian running scene. The FTK version of pretty much all their hosts/guests is a lot worse than who they normally are. Riley Wolff, Brett Robbo, Gen Gregson, Jess Stenson are all much better when not on FTK.
That’s pretty harsh. JTW is not the issue, he was great on IRP. It may just be that the FTK collectively has “cool kid” vibes and MTC can leave a sour taste in a lot of mouths in the running community
There's some interesting and fun personalities in the scene here in Australia, but its also not actually very deep, so FTK and IRP are fighting over the same pie, and FTK especially seem to have bought a level of professionalism that IRP dont have; either through circumstances because they're essentially 3 average blokes with day jobs, or because they want to keep the vibe that IRP has cultivated.
All this means you get the mess of the Road 2 Paris podcast, which however good it could have been was immediately fighting an uphill battle because of the controversy it was launched in. And then we have Andy being announced as a co-host on FKT within minutes of the announcement of him making the team in Paris.
As you say, JTW was so much more fun on R2NW. Partly I think that was Nick keeping him in check, and partly because it was this little show going out to a small paying audience. But now JTW has opened a door to something that can exist beyond his likely numbered running days and it brings out a competitive element. I dont think there's many people paying for both FKT & IRP patreon feeds, its one or the other, so they are fighting for ears willing to pay, and that probably brings out the worst in some of those involved.
A mess? It's all in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
"The Road to Paris" has been THE most interesting content published under FTK. How often have we been treated to weekly discussions of olympic-bound marathoners as they work through the hardest training blocks of their program, navigate international travel and culture clashes, and most of whom are doing so with young children as companions (if you haven't traveled with young kids on these kind of trips before, then just don't even). I'm in awe of what these women are undertaking.
Riley has been the perfect MC for this series. TBH, the controversy of the selection process has heightened the attention and stakes. I've never been happier to spend a little coin to listen to how it all goes down.

I mean considering 1 of the guests isn't even on the show anymore..
