I have a lot of respect for Brosnan's success at Newbury Park, but any discussion of his legacy or genius has to include the fact that he had 5 of the most talented athletes in USA history (from just 2 families). We've seen that this indoor season.
It doesn't take anything away from Newbury Park's accomplishments. But we also shouldn't pretend that Brosnan took fat and untalented runners and won a national championship with them.
If Brosnan wants to solidify his legacy as one of the top coaches in the USA, he needs to go out there and prove he can have success without winning a genetic lottery.
His one year at UCLA was decent, it doesn't prove he is a great coach or a bad coach. The ball is in Brosnan's court, and the shot clock is running out.
