Typical American runner strategy, totally whipped by east africans to the point where they don't even try to beat them. running for top 10 instead of running to medal. Same as Fisher yesterday. Molly S showed last year what you need to do to have a chance at hardware - and it doesn't involve sitting back 400m from the lead group and "running your pace"
So in you last major marathon you went out with the leaders, did you?
How'd that go for you?
This is the exact problem. believing that the appropriate strategy for me, random hobby jogger trying to PR, and the strategy to win a medal at a World Championships should be the same.
I’m a fan of D’Amato, but she wasn’t prepared for this and thus, I had low expectations for her. I don’t think she was really doing marathon training before she found out she was going to run the WC so she probably doesn’t have the top tier strength right now.
Yes. Two weeks notice.
Two weeks notice, and she's just been doing 10k training. Ran a 20+ mile long run as soon as she found out.
-80% of runners in the top 20 is basically running a time trial for the final 10 miles. This thing is so strung out from the early pace.
-The crowd support today sucks compared to yesterday. They did the women a disservice by doing all of the following simultaneously: putting it on a Monday, doing it after the men, and doing the 5k race before the men‘s and not the women‘s. Just give the women at least one of these advantages!

Good points. Why the F they didn't hold the next weekend is beyond me.
These World Athletics commentators are struggling to fill air time... The main commentator just spent a minute and a half talking about how the being in the sun is warmer then being in the shade. They also need to ask Mark Coogan better questions. He is such a knowledgeable guy. Ask him about race strategy, what are the leaders thinking about?, Etc.
It looks like Salpeter is closing quickly with Weldu. I’m really hoping for a medal for Salpeter. She has put herself out there in Doha & Tokyo, only to fall apart. This time she is racing better.
It's a race for the bronze at this point. The two leaders are now almost a minute ahead and running well. The chase pack of two is losing some ground to the second chase pack and only has a 15 second lead now.
