I don’t have a problem weighing her in front of everyone. There simply isn’t much of a reason to keep physiological attributes relevant to running m a secret from your running teammates. If she felt emotionally traumatized, she presumably could’ve talked to him about it and requested not be weighed in front of her colleagues.

Hmm, while internet might be accurate about those weights - go look at photos of the closest height matches of Coburn and Frerichs and look to see if you can figure out how either of them could lose 3 pounds - seriously at their peaks they are absolutely ripped.

Then go plug in the height and weight to a BMI calculator and notice how far below a healthy weight that number is. I'm all for nutrition advice for any athlete - but prescribing a number is a fantastic way to court injury and in a 19 yo female athlete a great way to encourage an eating disorder.

Simple fact was Salazar was an abusive coach and he caused damage to a young athlete. Go read any in depth reporting on his handling of Cain and try to objectively defend him without resorting to mental gymnastics.

Is every female you know an obese American and that's why your world view is so skewed? 114 pounds for 5'7 is average for women of that height anywhere in the world except the obese West. You've never been to university where girls are walking all over the place out that similar height and weight? Furthermore, as I already started, the USATF website states Mary Cain was 111 pounds and 5'7 in 2014 so Salazar have her a heavier weight target than when she was racing in top condition.

Some or many posters on this thread and other threads over the years do not seem to realize, making an athlete go underweight, requires them to burn through fat AND muscle. Muscle needed to make one run fast from point A to point B. What was Salazar's approach to attempting to making Mary Cain lose weight? Did he expect Cain to starve herself in order to lose weight? Did Salazar add mileage? Did Salazar add rope climbing/push-ups/sit-ups/deep knee bends/bent knee leg raises/dips? Did Salazar ask Cain to swim a mile before breakfast? Did Salazar add bodybuilder-type higher rep weight training? Was Salazar scientific about it all? Did Salazar care about body fat percentage? If Salazar knew what he was doing, Salazar would have allowed Cain to remain an 800m specialist as a teenager. Salazar would have focused more on percentage of body fat than actual weight. Do know: Caster Semenya weighed over 160 pounds at Semenya's peak. Responses will be: Semenya was unfairly strong due to T-level. My response: Exactly! Salazar should have turned Mary Cain over to an 800m coach. An 800m coach would have made Cain strong and would have reduced body fat with proper weight training.

If people don't think that Salazar can coach 800 runners, why did Mary Cain want to run for him? If things were that bad when she was running for him, why did she try to go back, with the support of her parents? Is Salazar the only distance coach to care about weight? In "Running with the Buffalos", I seem to remember a lot of weight references from Wetmore. Seems unlikely that it was only addressed as an issue with the men's team. Lot of blaming going on from Mary's side, and no taking of responsibility from Dad or Mom.

Ha. How many women do you know that are 5’7 and 114 pounds? That may be an elite racing weight for SOME (but as noted women around her height and shorter are 3-5 pounds heavier) but you are delusional if you think that is an average weight for women around the world.

Regardless, go read the legal complaint posted a couple pages back. 111 is not the weight they are claiming she was. He wanted her to lose 5 pounds from 119.
