In that video, her right leg is dragging... she may have irreversible leg-butt disease caused from cycling.. just numbs the nerves, i.e., sciatica, etc., causing weakness due to inflammation and fatigue. Her form is broken down, which is surprising from an elite marathon. Check Mo Farah or Sugaru's form the last 100m, just crisp and fluid and elongated. Night and day from Jorgensen. If I were her I would focus on the Triathlon.
I think it was her hip flexors.
God she talks alot of cliches... like she doesn't know what she's talking about.. just making sh!t up.
Why the need to run 100+ miles a week.
While she may still figure out the marathon distance, she is built for the 1500m and has so far run best at the 5000m.
10000m may be too far. That 15:15 was very solid for brief training with BTC. Go all the way in on the 1500m/5000m or even steeple, given her height. If she has no speed, then 15's out, of course. But it's the track if she wants to make the Olympic team, and if she wants gold, it's back to the Tri. I give her an A+ for moving from the absolute pinnacle of the triathlon, a very lucrative sport for her, to the marathon for the challenge but the writing's on the wall here.
Teammate Shalane Flanagan tells it like it is:
“As we all know, the marathon pays dividends after years and years of work and I try to teach her patience, but she’s a very driven woman,” Flanagan said, later adding, “I’ve definitely seen more of an inclination toward her 5K and 10K potential—it’s much more similar to her background in triathlon; it’s a much more natural fit at this point. It doesn’t mean that she can’t become a marathoner, I just think it’s going to take a lot longer than the timeframe she wants it to happen in.”

Of course everyone has a 3 month specific buildup. The point is, what was Gwen doing 2 years ago. Not training for marathons is what she was doing. She is almost a year into some pretty steady training/racing for the marathon right now. So the tweet is just pointing out that she hasn't even hit that yet.
I doubt Hansons tweeted at her specifically, anyways. That could just as easily be directed at any runner who does a short buildup and wonders why they didn't get their goal time.
Patience pays. Try different distances, even ultras for training. And don’t listen to anyone who told her it would be easy or quick.
She should go to Flafstaff.

I don't no why anything other than go back to the tri would make any sense here. she's an olympic gold medal triathlete and a mediocre elite distance runner.

Andrew Bumbalough ran 2:10:56 which was the fourth American and only 20 seconds behind the first American.
Not sure how that is a let down.
It is also worth noting, BTC men have not been focused on the marathon, so not a huge body of work to make such an observation from my perspective.

She should stay with BTC and focus on the steeple. Could take Quigley's spot.
I think she has potential for gold in the marathon if she gets a hold of Rosa's secret sauce

Here is the likely reason. To be what she was in the tri, which is basically the best in the world at the Olympic distance, she had to train for three different sports. Total volume and time commitment is greater for that than just running alone. Not saying it's easier, but the volume and time commitment is more. She has a family and probably wants something closer to a normal life.
Plus she's a CPA. That's probably next for her in reality.
