Hi all.
Figure I'll give a quick update since I've been gone for a while. I get pretty busy in the fall with coaching. I was still running 30-50mpw in the fall with some tempo workouts and strides, but mostly easy mileage.
The only race I've done since track season was a 15k in July that I ran at 5:48 pace, which I was pleasantly surprised with. But it was basically perfect weather.
I've still been battling some minor PTT in my left ankle/shin. It's been manageable, and gets better when I take care of it (icing, strengthening, etc), but I just need to find time and be consistent with it.
I have started building up a bit for track season in early November. I've only been doing about mid 40s for mileage the last 6 weeks or so, but I'm slowly working that into the mid 50s where I'll likely stay (maybe a 60 and a 40 here and there).
I have also been lifting relatively consistently since November also.
As for recent workouts: Nothing is overly impressive. It's mostly just been me building up some aerobic fitness.
•3x8min + 1x4min @ ~5:30 pace with 1min rest.
• 11 miles @ 6:25 pace
• 5 miles @ 5:50 pace
• 3 miles @ 5:59 pace + 4x1k @ 3:30 with 1min rest.
• 8x30m sprints
I've also done some hills and other stuff, but the above are my most recent workouts the last few weeks. All of them were well within myself. I've definitely gotten fitter even over just the last few weeks. I'm pretty excited to start racing again eventually.
As for racing, my tentative plan is:
Road mile in late December (we'll see if the roads/weather hold up lol), then a few January and early February track meets where i'll likely just have fun, run a mile or 3k, maybe a 1k or 500m or whatever else feels right that week. Won't be going for blazing times but I think I should be able to get close to my mile or 3k PR or run a decent 1k. But we'll see.
I'll try to get back to consistently updating the thread week by week at least.
