Kipchoge went low 59, so you think he's marathon time would not be good?

Hardly a Rupp fan here. Just pointing out what Canova has said on these boards in the past.

I don't know what Kipchoge would run right now for a marathon. Is his training marathon focused or was he focused on the half? Does he have another race coming up soon after this?

Hasay right where I predicted. With Rupp I predicted 61 but there I had no idea because on the one hand it was absurd to think that he didn't have sub 60 capability after having won two Olympic medals and run 26:44, and absurd to think that he'd go all the way to Prague for a 62 that he could have run in Portland in a local half race. (Maybe he was training at elevation in Europe and this was just convenient, but it is absurd if he was training in Oregon and flew to Europe for this). On the other hand, this is just before Boston, he's tired, and you just never know if elites are going to show up and run fast in the half before a marathon, because, among other things, they have bigger fish to fry, don't want to get injured, and have been practicing MP, not 1/2 MP.

Just playing devils advocate though, Hall typically had mediocre half marathons before marathons. His 2011 NYC half was a train wreck.

What happened on the men's side? It was much slower than usual with the winner in mid-59 and all of the top Kenyans between mid 1:00 and mid 1:01.

What a stupid post.

I predicted Rupp correct - anywhere between 61 and 63. However I was also guessing Hasay would be 70-71. I saw it live on Flotrack early this morning, and when the leaders picked up the pace a bit after 5K, Rupp didn't want any part of it. He was either tired (training+travel) or he was just focused on running the pace he agreed to dial in. Unlike another poster on this thread - they showed him for a few seconds after finishing, and I thought he looked fine - like he didn't push too hard at all.

Hasay's run was surprisingly strong. She made the final turn and could see the clock at the finish and displayed a pretty big kick. Hasay looked like she had a lot left in the tank and just put on a little kick to sneak under 68.

Someone also asked why would Rupp travel all this distance just to run 62? Easy: (1) he got to get back in a race mindset and run fast with a pack of East Africans for awhile which he can not replicate at a "local half", and (2) he was most likely very well compensated via appearance fees.

Only time will tell if Jordan is as good of a marathoner as she is an HM runner. Jury still out on Galen, despite the medals. His sweet spot may be the 10K, unless he's a Khannouchi type.

Ya not sure what happened with Rupp today. Either he's not in shape or just had a bad day. I was running in that Portland half when Rupp ran 61:30, that was an eaaaaasy tempo run for him. After the finish he continued back on the course at what looked like the same pace - he probably ran 20+ miles that day he jogged a 61:30....

Remember when Khannouchi would run 62-63' in Puerto Rico and then drop a sub-2:06 in the marathon a couple of weeks later?

Marathon training is tricky at the highest level.. and remember this is Boston, he won't need a 2:06 performance.

If you look at their splits, Rupp got out quick as all the leaders did but settled in and ran even splits. I would say a controlled effort by him. I don't buy the tired from travel alibi, he has raced all over the world and knows how to travel and race. Im not sure why everybody here seems to think this is his first time on plane. Given his level of training,I would say he is little flat but marathon fit.

Banging it out with africans as you note, very helpful for Boston.

Jordan ran very smart and controlled, look at her splits, got out quick and then settled in. I like her new found confidence and racing mindset.

Their travel was not for appearance monies,the organizers assembled a world class field on a fast certified course ,record eligible non aided.

Eh, it's just a casual observation, but I'd say the way Hasay and Rupp ran are vey contrasting efforts. Maybe Rupp is behind in fitness since he did miss a race with PF in Jan.

I think it was just a rust buster to get him ready for Boston. I doubt this is what he aimed for, but it probably will benefit him better than Hasay. I am thinking she ran her race today..

Can we juat appreciate how the wpmens half marathon world record got smashed and the person who did it ran a 30:04 10k on her way, but you letsrunners are talking about the person who got 11th in the mens race.

How did Mary Cain do? Heard she was set in at a 1:12 pace at 32:00 minutes in.
