Do you go barefoot when there is snow on the ground?
Fortunately, it doesn't snow or ice very often in Oklahoma. The worst conditions I endured on the days I ran barefoot was about 30 degrees on wet grass. Now I'm in Oregon, and I felt just fine yesterday running barefoot on wet grass/mud in the rain (about 50 degrees). I don't do more than 15-20 min. at a time.
Actually, you should check out this guy's website:

What type of exercises do you use to strengthen your feet and lower legs? I haven't been injured with stability shoes and orthotics, I just like running with lighter shoes, I don't know if I could drop the orthotics completely, "if it ain't broke don't fix it", I think I will try lighter shoes at first with my orthotics and see how this feels.
The barefoot running is the strengthening! No need to do any other exercises.... the barefoot running is as specific as it gets. I agree-- it ain't broke, don't fix it. But it doesn't hurt to work on your weaknesses; for me, I felt the weak link was my baby-soft flat feet. Now, my feet and lower legs are stronger and never fatigue; I train and race in the same shoes, so I never have to worry about post-workout or race fatigue because of wearing less on my feet. I recover much quicker. Yeah, just let it be a gradual process.... just a few miles here and there, whether barefoot or in lighter shoes. You just progress to where you can run day after day in lighter shoes. I throw in the weakly barefoot running to help offset the idiosyncrasies of shoes. Even try doing more barefoot activity (outside of running).... wear light, flexible street shoes as well.
How many of you actually race in the h streets?
The Adidas ZX racer in leather is an interesting minimalist winter shoe. I just bought a pair at an outlet. They fit like a glove and have no heel counter.
The Free is 12/20. 12/7 for the H Street sounds right.
I do. I do all my training in the H Streets, including several 22mi days over concrete. I've raced 5mi over the roads on a few occasions, and all was well.
But more than me, one of my training partners has done 30mi road runs on the H Street and jumped in the SD RnR marathon last year and cruised to a 2:35 with minimal effort. His only regret was that he (at the time) had not done any concrete running in months and that he wasn't prepared for so much road running. Since then, he makes sure to do about half his running on the roads.
Do any of you train like elites??
Have you checked Nobby's posts?
Trackhead, check out the adidas zx leather racer. What do you think?
Personally, I like the streak xc more than the mayfly. I like the streak for the fit, the light upper, the flexibility and the simplicity. They mayfly theoretically should be great, but for me, they just don't feel as smooth. Though the heel:forefoot height is quite good.

Jaguar1 thankyou very much for all the info you have provided.

Well, I guess you would think so, but no it was just wet dew in the morning.
I don't know if you're still checking this thread, but if you are, between the mayfly and xc, which midsole is closer to the ground - I'm looking for the least midsole between the two. I'm looking for "road feel" - and my T4s have better road feel than these mayflys. Thought I'd get some feedback before I drop the $65. (BTW, any info on the Katana Racer?)Thanx.
streak xc
Thanx much. I'll give 'em a shot. Hope they flatten out fast like the T4s. Trackhead, if you get a chance, when you get any actual wearer feedback on the Katana Racer, a quick post would be appreciated. Thanx.
Ouch,
....a "minimalist" 48 yo dude here, and a bit of a fool too! I love running in H-Street, and I have been running in fairly minimal shoes for +/- 2 yrs. But last Thursday I think I managed to give myself a calcaneal stress fracture... I guess bad form, too early in the morning, in a week with too little sleep and two "harder" wo's... Were's the pool?
How many elites run marathons in flats? Any H-Streets here?
