No one really started running fast until Usain Bolt came along. It's all about him. He pushed Tyson Gay to 9.68 then a wind legal 9.69. He pushed Asafa Powell to a 9.72 virtually no wind (which stands corrected as the 2nd fastest run of all time besides Bolt's 9.69 in Beijing)

Now he's pushed Yohan Blake in training to these unbelievable times.

Face it, without Bolt, Asafa Powell would still have the world record in 9.74. 19.32 would stil reign and i doubt we would have seen a sub 19.6 yet.

Track in Bruxelles has a different set up than most other tracks in the world. The curves are approx 15m longer...therefore it's easier to run trough them at higher speed. Ran a deuce myself over there for a few times and although I hated the distance, my PB ís from that venue and 0.27s faster than what I ever ran anywhere else.

Don't let this Friday's race fool ya..Blake floored it in that bend, Dix however ran problably the best curve I've seen him run so far. I was standing at the track entrance at the last relay exchange zone, so had a very good view on what happened.

The lies continue. I posted no list of anything. Several posters have accused several black athletes who have never been publicly acknowledged as having a postive drug test of likely being dopers, so I was wondering why people like Sally Pearson, Paula Radcliffe, Galen Rupp, Jeremy Wariner never make their lists.

Exactly. I asked for a link earlier and there was no response, as I fully expected. There is no "recent positive" and Blake is not awaiting anything. Seems like he's parroting the same lies coming from the other talking heads.

One thing is for certain. What Bolt and Blake have done this year serves to make Track and Field stronger. Bolt doesn't care what these racist/delusional/white supremacist/USA pushers gave to say.

I've said it time and again in the past few years that sports at the Elite level involves some (and likely a rather high) level of pharmacological help.

When you look at the NBA and see 6'7", 200lb+ guys with as much agility, jumping ability, change of speed and fitness levels than some of the best in the world (in their respective areas of expertise) while playing 80+ games a season and ask no questions then there's no reason for you to look at track and ask the same things.

When you see the NFL with players that are barely over 6' topping 200lbs, running sub 4.5 40 yard times in 20+ pounds of equipment, shrugging off multiple tackles and never getting injured over a 16 week season in spite of constant contact and abuse and you don't ask questions.

When you see 300 pound linemen running at speeds you'd be hardpressed to reach on a good day and don't ask questions.

When you see Soccer players in Europe play 3, 90+ minute games a week, running upwards of 8 miles a game, training every day but simultaneously not losing a shred of weight (some even putting on muscle on a yearly basis) while maintaining speed and agility (some of these guys could legitimately sprint albeit not at the elite level) and you don't ask how they manage.

Or tennis players that have continued to grow in size and strength, serving upwards of 120 mph on the men's side playing so many games and tournaments a year, toiling away for 3 hours in a single game, winning and then coming back the next day for another 3 hours of torment and not calling it ridiculous.

The above are just small examples of the things we see and don't question AND that's without going into the sports where doping is just par for the course, like cycling, where without help riders would barely be able to put 3 days of racing together.

Exactly...thats a big jump to 19.26...Technically, look at Blake's curve, HE IS BARELY RUNNING!!!! No one gets faster after a certain point, everyone else gets slower, but I really doubt that Dix was running that slow when he ran a PR for him as well in the same race and his best before then was 19.69...a couple of years ago and he's been consistent lol

Blake's time is not equivalent to the white runners you mentioned... it blows those times away. That is why it is suspicious. I guarantee if Wariner ran the 400m equivalent of 42.36, people would have questions. Therefore your position that people are racist is wrong.

Armstrong has never been tested positive, when cycling. Richard Virenque, a french guy working for Festina in the late 90's agreed that he was himself on PED, but never got caught, even if cycling is probably the most tested sport.

If blake had run a 19.26 after several years of improvements ( increase PB by .1 to .2 especially in the sub 20, I would sheer his new PB. But come on, 0.52 increase !! Lemaitre ran 19.80 increasing by 0.36 his PB, but he ran several 200m with time around 20.2x with strong head wind. It was no suprised that he run 19.80 with good conditions. Bolt is extremly talented and had very regular time improvment until his 22, when he just run incredible times, increasing his PB on both 100m & 200m by 0.5 to 0.6.How can you explain such improvements? They have been practicing for more then 10 years. What is the "thing" that allow them to suddenly run so much faster? new training? new technique? ...what?

First of all, while it is true that Blake’s best 200 meter times have dropped as noted over these three seasons, one should look further back in time to get a better picture. Drawing conclusions from a data set of three will get you an F in any statistics class.

Here’s Blake’s progression over a five-year period. I have appended the equivalent points from the IAAF scoring table, and I’ll explain why in a bit.

To say that Blake made this improvement over just three years is a bit disingenuous. As you can see, four years ago he was essentially at the same level as two years ago, but took a step back in 2008 (when he suffered an injury). The guy was clearly a stud four years ago, when he was just 17 years old (the equivalent of a high school junior in the USA).

However, the real head-scratcher as to why Hersh used this particular data (and why Friday’s race result was so unexpected) is that Blake’s primary event has always been the 100 meters, and he rarely runs the 200. As a result, his best marks in that event are uneven (which was Hersh’ point in the first place).

So, let’s take a look at Blake’s yearly progress in both sprint events, taken side-by-side with IAAF points to compare the relative quality of the marks…

That massive improvement Hersh referred to between 2009 and 2010 now disappears, becoming less than 2% when comparing his best single mark across both events.

In 2007, Blake ran 10.11. Had he been a US high school student, he would have established a new national junior-class record by a full tenth of a second. In 2009, after his setback year of 2008, he became the youngest man in world history to break 10.00. He was the greatest teenager in the history of the event, much as Bolt was to the 200.

Now, you can accuse Blake of many things, not the least of which is that he failed a drug test for a stimulant in 2009 and received a three-month suspension. Others have said more (I will not). You can even point to Friday’s race as being too good to believe. But if you say he’s a Johnny-come-lately, you either didn’t do your homework, or you’re being intellectually dishonest. And Hersh knows how to fact-check.

The three month ban was an accident and was NOT intentional. To even say he was getting some massive performance enhancement from that was also disingenuous. I wish Blake the best of luck in the future. I believe a true track fan should be able to look beyond country or colour lines and appreciate true talent just as I have regardless of the discipline or country involved.

Sprint have been taken to another level by the men. All that would be left is for the women to try to erase the tainted records of the past by stepping the rivalry between them. Again, thanks for putting things into perspective and leaving sensationalism behind.
