Hey guys, how did the USATF championship 1500 go yesterday? Because I heard that Hocker is a "championship racer" who "wins when it matters" (even if he hasn't won a major national/international 1500 since August 2024).
lol I love how every time Cole runs well and dominates you are going to slink away into the shadows, and then every time he has a bad race you're going to come back to crow about being right.
Hmm that's true at one level. But more reason for Hocker to prioritize US selection races and put the win beyond doubt and not make it a game of roulette. Surely a 3:45 miler can control a race like this to his liking.
And anyway, remember this? He had selection, but ran nationals for fun.
Not to be too blunt but comparing a Norwegian championship field in the 1500 to a field with 12 guys in 3:51 mile shape or better is just a joke. Maybe Hocker could control the race fresh but he’s a 3:45.9 guy doubling against several guys who will run 3:31 or better outdoors.

It’s quite funny the difference in tactics. Jakob just sat in last until about 850 to go and then rushed to the front and didn’t let anyone pass him for the rest of the race. Hocker was the complete opposite. Maybe this strategy would help? Although Hocker looked quite tired.

Jakobs WIC 1500/3000 fields were so much stronger than this weekend's USATF 1500/3000 fields.
Look. Hocker was simply not beaten by the leading athletes in the event. With great respect, he was beaten at his own game by relative no-names.
By what standard? Look at how his top competition (Gourley, Habz) fared vis a vis Nuguse in Millrose last year. Have those guys ever medaled in the Olympics, finished top 5 at Worlds, you can go on. Or how Nico Young compares to anyone but Aregawi in those 3,000m wins. Yes George Mills was good last year but he’s not as good as Nico in any respect and has a notoriously tepid finish. At Worlds Indoors, Luke Houser got 3rd, .38 behind Jakob so calling him a relative no-name is a bit rich. And if you watch the race it would’ve been even closer had Gourley not jostled Houser (legally). A smart move but it impacted Housers momentum.
You're completely cherry picking data points.
By that logic, in the Euro championships Jakob beat Almgren who beat Hocker by 25 seconds in Oslo, and Laros, who completely owned Yared Nuguse on the circuit. He also beat Nader who beat all the Americans in the world championships. And saying someone only lost a championship 1500m race by .38 seconds is a really silly thing to say. Especially if it's said while making the point that the race he finished in second place (by .02) had better competition than the one where he got third.

I wasn't comparing apple to apples, just reminding people that fatigue is a poor excuse. I was really making the point that you don't f**k around at nationals if you want to make the team or have bragging rights or whatever. Yes Hocker is a 3:45 guy. NOBODY is close to running that time currently - he should have put them away for fun.

I’m cherry picking? You’re using data points and accomplishments from the future to prop up the level of competition. Millrose isn’t cherry-picked it was a head to head from earlier in the 2025 season. It’s not silly to say that Jakob narrowly beat Gourley and Houser, it’s what happened. Houser executed a better race at USAs this year than at World Indoors last year. All of this is to say championship racing is hard and the greater depth of in-form runners the harder it is. And you can watch last years 1500m final and analyze the splits if you’d like. Yesterday was a tougher field, and they ran faster while closing the last 400 harder while going 5 deep.

Yared ran 3:48.3 while sick so what do you even mean? Are you going to be surprised actually when Green runs 3:30 or faster outdoors, Ciattei runs 3:31 and a bunch of these guys (Bove, Porter, Cawthra) hit 3:32s. Jakob probably is better-suited to doubling due to his huge base, to be fair. But I think Hocker letting too many by was the problem not his general approach.

Of course I was cherry-picking. That was the point- to show how stupid it is to take a couple of convenient result to make your point. It is also stupid to say someone only "narrowly" won a championship race- it's not a time trial, people win by as much as they have to. The point I was making is Jakob is held to a completely different standard - when he doubled at Euros and Worlds last year, the narrative was largely that the competition was weak. Hocker lost to Hauser and Ciattei, and the narrative is "look how deep the US is".

Jakob ran a far better race in Nanjing than Hocker did in NY though. His final 800m was 1:50.5 and final 400m was 54.16. Maybe that is why he beat Houser last year and Hocker didn't. Hocker's final 800 was close to 1:53.9-1:54 and final 400m was 54.5. He just ran a horrible race and was gassed from the 3k. Hocker shouldn't be closing that slow and the time was almost marginally different between them (3:38.08 vs 3:38.79).

So he's going to be here more often than not.
Ironically, his 50:50 win-loss record in the 1500 so far in 2026 is a massive improvement on this 2024 or 2025 record.
I own my statements, unlike all of the fanboys with nothing to say when their guy isn't even top-4 in his own nationals, with a WC spot on the line in his pet event.
coming back to say “well what I said was UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE!” and he proved otherwise so your prediction was nothing and you are nothing and this thread is nothing gday bud
Dumb post.
If I say "This room stinks" and then someone opens a window, that doesn't mean the room didn't stink.
And Hocker absolutely stunk in the 1500 through all of 2025.
Enjoy the fun while you can OP. When the Ultimate championship comes or in 2027 at the lastest when Hocker wins the double, you would have to shut up permanently.
