I’ll pass. I used to be a huge sports fan but can’t get into them anymore. Running was the last sport I was passionate about following but it’s ruined for me
Is there any running going on? I’m just seeing wheelchairs.
I think the 2nd group could turn into a battle for the final podium spot. If J. Kiplimo and Korir battle for the win, third could still be a possibility for those who started a bit slower. Timothy Kiplagat I think is pretty cooked, P. Kiplimo might have overdone it too. Maybe Kipruto stays in contention but a lot of good guys in that 2nd pack with Mantz, Kamworor, Abdi, etc.
Again everyone is talking about Kiptoo challenging Mantz for American record but Talbi is right there with them..
Is Talbi still repping for Morocco? If so, he won't be eligible for the AR.
That's correct. He competed for Morocco last year in the Olympics so the soonest he could compete as American is 2027 (though as far as i know he already has the US citizenship)
I’m extremely confused. Isn’t Talbi an American citizen now and representing USA? He ran USATF champs last month but he’s listed as Moroccan on the live tracker and Ed is ignoring him as an American in his commentary.
Do they just not know or is he running for Morocco? Can JG figure this out?
Men 54 egrees, sunny. 9 mph wind out of the SE at start of race. 60:30 pace for Korir group 62:00 pace for Mantz group 4:25 first mile! That’s 1:55 marathon pace. Bit of a tailwind there. 13:58 first 5k. Leading group of 5 – Korir, Kiplimo x2, Kiplagat, Kipruto. 14:23 (2:01:22 pace) for Mantz group, which has 11 guys including Kiptoo 28:25 at 10k for leaders (14:27 second 5k). 1:59:54 pace 29:17 (2:03:30 pace) for Mantz group, which also includes Talbi First 8 miles largely with a tailwind. Course heads back to the city from 8 miles through 14 so it may slow a bit. 42:41 at 15k (14:16 split) They’re on pace for a 2:00:03 marathon. Still five guys up front. 44:04 (2:03:55 pace) for Mantz group. Kiplagat getting dropped from lead group during mile 13 Lead pacers off at halfway 60:16 for leaders at half – Korir, Kipruto, and the Kiplimos. Korir has a slight gap as soon as pacers step off 62:18 for Mantz group at half. Korir has gotten a gap just after half. Philemon and Kipruto have dropped, but Jacob Kiplimo still keeping it close, 5-10m behind Kiplimo draws onto Korir’s shoulder during mile 15.
Lead women's group hit 5k in 16:06. 2:15:52 pace. Taye was 16:09 only 2 up front with male pacer. The top Americans including Popehn (and top Brit as well) hit 5k in 16:24. 2:18:24 pace At 10k, top two women have separated – 32:08. It’s Feysa (ETH) and Shauri (TAN) Top two women of Feysa (ETH) and Shauri (TAN) hit 10k in 32:08 (2:15:35 pace). Taye and Alemu are 32:15. Popeh, Makenna Myler, and Haugher-Thackery of GBR are 33:11 which is 2:20:01 pace so Popehn is doing exactly what she wanted. Shaure and Feysa hit halfway in 67:30. Alemu and Taye hit halway in 3rd and 4th in 67:37-8. Popehn his halfway in 70:26 in 7th. Natosha Rogers is 9th in 70:44. Haugher-Thackery is 11th in 70:58
Somehow Chicago tracking doesn't list Centrowitz or Rupp. What a bummer. They started but you can't track them.
