The NCAA is an absolute joke now. Coaches can pay athletes over 100k just to transfer, and the NCAA has zero power to stop it. It’s embarrassing. They slapped a violation on this case with no proof whatsoever. Just wait, they’re desperate to control the conversations, but it’s all smoke and mirrors. God help the NCAA because whatever was left of their credibility is long gone. It was fun while it lasted, but now it’s just a mess.
the NCAA has no actual evidence of wrongdoing. They’re just assuming things and putting words in Brosnan and the fathers' mouths
Not true. Even Brosnan himself was going around in the fall of 2022 telling high school recruits that several college women had already agreed to transfer to UCLA but he couldn't name them because those woman weren't in the portal yet. This was happening BEFORE the first women entered the portal on Dec 11, 2022.
Somehow Bronson has convinced one of the mods here to delete any mention of Brosnan doing that. Shame on that mod for covering up for Brosnan.
The crazy part is they have no actual evidence of tampering. The NCAA's rule that you can’t be friends with someone if they have a son or daughter at another school you coach for is a bazar joke. This whole case is based on nothing. Everyone admits it was just a friendly conversation and or a serious family health issue. It’s embarrassing for the NCAA to act like this is some big deal. Brosnan will definitely appeal because the NCAA is dead wrong here. Even they admitted:
“Although tampering conduct is relatively straightforward and uncomplicated, this case involved a unique set of facts and circumstances”
And for the NCAA to say.
“Thus, even if Brosnan's communications with the two prospects' fathers did not touch on the possibility of their transfer to UCLA”
During prospect 2’s interview with the enforcement staff, she recalled her father telling her about one of the calls he had with Brosnan in which Brosnan expressed that he would love to have prospect 2 at UCLA. Following her entry in the transfer portal January 2, 2023, prospect 2 enrolled at UCLA and competed for the institution.
Prospect 1 entered the transfer portal on December 12, 2022, and prospect 2 entered on January 2, 2023. Two of Brosnan’s 11 phone calls with prospect 1’s father occurred at 10:25 p.m. and 11:07 p.m. on December 11, 2022, the night before prospect 1 entered the portal. Prospect 1’s father initiated both calls. Brosnan then initiated a phone call to prospect 1’s father the following day. The call concluded 13 minutes before prospect 1 entered the portal. Prospect 1’s father then called Brosnan three minutes after prospect 1 entered the portal.
This situation is completely wrong, especially since the NCAA has no actual evidence of wrongdoing. Their claim that “even if Brosnan's communications with the two prospects' fathers did not touch on the possibility of their transfer to UCLA, simply maintaining those relationships provided an advantage” is absolutely insane. They’re just assuming things and putting words in Brosnan and the fathers' mouths, which is not only unfair but also illegal. The antitrust issue comes into play when they tell a coach he can’t be friends with someone outside of work because of arbitrary rules that contradict the law. Honestly, the NCAA really messed up posting this, and they’ve clearly crossed some serious legal lines.
So you think the athlete herself is lying about what her dad said? Is that your argument?
Maybe she too found out Sean was MAGA and decided to make up conversations with her dad to frame Sean. Is that it?
Sean, you gotta take your foot off the gas with spamming this thread if you want to make more of an impact on your favor. It's over the top and makes it more obvious that it's just you trying to defend yourself, rather than demonstrating an upswell of antipathy towards the NCAA's position.
If only you had devoted this much time & energy into following the rules!

Don’t listen to this guy Sean. All gas, no brake baby! I may cancel my Netflix subscription if you can keep the entertainment rolling.

there was never any talk about recurring or recruiting. Her dad just said he would love to have you—that’s it. Her Dad said there was not talk about recurring her and that’s the actual facts. That’s not tampering or recruiting whatsoever. You're just mad because you hate Brosnan, and there was absolutely zero proof. This is the worst case I’ve ever seen. The NCAA is royally screwed.

Atta baby! don’t let up!
you’re right, the NCAA is bent over a barrel. I think you can take the whole thing down. you go!
Bro, the NCAA is straight-up savage, they literally dictate who you can roll with. It’s like they’re running some damn high school clique, deciding your every move. Unreal!

Saying you'd love to have someone on the team is the definition of what the NCAA calls a recruiting conversation.

Listen, the father didn’t say that shi!t, and neither did Brosnan. Saying “yes, he’d love to have you” doesn’t mean Brosnan actually said it. Especially when the dad himself said it didn’t happen. That’s just the dad being nice to his daughter, not the damn truth! Stop twisting facts.

This is honestly the dumbest case I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen plenty over the years. Brosnan got mitigated results because the NCAA knows this case is complete BS. They were desperate to find a violation after all the time they spent on it. They even admitted they have no real proof of tampering, yet they claim one rule stops him from talking to anyone—even friends of 10 years—if recruiting isn’t discussed. This is the biggest stretch by the NCAA I’ve ever witnessed. I really hope this guy appeals because once the LA Times and NY Times pick this up, the NCAA will look like the dirtbags they always do, and the ruling will have to change.
The NCAA knew this case was full of missing evidence, but they don’t give a damn because it’s not a real hearing. It’s a completely biased sh!t show. They even admitted, “Although tampering conduct is relatively straightforward and uncomplicated, this case involved a unique set of facts and circumstances.” Basically, they wanted to find something but had zero proof. The NCAA is acting like some homeowners association, making up fake rules and ruling however they want. The problem is Brosnan will appeal, which means the NCAA doesn’t stand a chance in a real court where facts actually matter and they have the burden of proof — something they clearly don’t have.

Hey, just to clarify, the dad didn’t actually say that. It’s just a girl guessing he might have remembered it. The dad probably said something like, of course he wants you to run there. He had to say that because Brosnan told him, I can’t talk to you about anything until she’s in the portal. Brosnan did the right thing handling it that way. You need facts to say yes it happened. Brosnan didn’t do anything against the rule except the twisted words by you.

I twisted no words. You need to actually read the report.

The report clearly shows the NCAA handed out tampering violations just for making a call to a pre-existing friend, even though there was no recruiting discussion at all. They claimed no pre-existing relationship is allowed, and didn’t care that SA coming to the school was never even mentioned. This is exactly why the NCAA is a complete joke—anyone can prove these relationships are accepted and pretty much everyone has them. Plus, it’s outright illegal to prohibit this kind of communication.
