Not only am I for tariffs, I think there should even be government incentives for companies who produce certain key goods in the U.S. Less than optimally efficient? Yes. Good for national security? Also yes.
Finally, despite being a small government believer I think there should be an office that studies how subsidies, environmental regs, and labor costs affect the cost of any good imported to the U.S. In this way tariffs could be tailored.
Tariffs should also automatically be in place for not jacking up near-peer communist militaries.
I hope people know that the U.S. did just fine before importing everything from China.
