The whole field looked like they're ready for the season to end. Maybe it was the miserable weather.
I kind of think Olli Hoare should end his season. He's nowhere near where he should be and looks like he needs a reset.

Great to see Laros hang in there and pass Kerr. Props to some impressive efforts from Tebogo, and PBs from Bednarek, Salmon (W400mh) and Zhoya (100mh). Chebet kept it interesting for awhile.
I've gotten faster and more efficient with age. I have been running parkrun all summer around 17:30-40 on 30 miles. Good enough for 3rd-7th generally. I am not naturally fast but am able to outlast most other runners. I find it interesting to see improvement.
Only issue are injuries now. I can't shake off hamstring tendinopathy.
Agree that everyone looks pretty cooked. Jakob looked off which may be due to illness but who knows. Great run from Nuguse, he is not scared of anyone anymore.
I don’t know if i necessarily agree. Nuguse was measuring it and easily hung with Jakobs 13.7 bend with 200m to go before blasting a 13.1.
Jakob didn’t have the same finish as Lausanne (illness/fatigue sure), but he could be much better by Brussels.
Reynold ran 1512 meters and closed in 12.9, so he just needs to position himself and be a bit more brave in running up front. Habz is at a decent level for his mostly OK season.
It was Laros’ first race since Paris, so I’m hopeful he mostly shook off rust.
Hocker closed decently and can now completely back off.
I don’t have much hope for anyone from positions 8 on - maybe Tim was a first race off the plane thing.
For the DL final, it could be a very good race though maybe only about 6 guys near their best in Jakob, Nuguse, Hocker, Reynold, Laros and maybe Komen.

Dude ran like crap in Germany a few days earlier losing to Giles and couldn't sprint 14.1 let alone 13.1 (in Zurich) and suddenly sprints 1 second faster in the final 100m?????????????

Agree Kerr and Hocker look burnt out, but they went gold/silver and silver/gold at World indoors and the Olympics this year, so I don't ding them either since they both showed up to race. Surprised there's as much vitriol for Kerr as there is lol. I wish he'd run 1 or 2 more DLs this year, but he's had a successful year by any measure (except maybe Jakob's lol)
How about Jakob!? That guy was running on absolute empty tonight and understandably so. And unlike Budapest where some people accused him of using being sick as an excuse he was upfront with this one a week before the meet, still fronted when he didn't need to, almost certainly underplayed it in the press conference and said the right things.
Why the vitriol for Kerr? Contradicts himself almost every time he opens his mouth. Took unnecessary jabs at Jakob in the presser and then goes out and lays an egg and still gets pasted by the guy running on empty that he gets his panties all in a twist over.

The fact that the guy you go into this field is Hocker and not Nordas says a lot.
Nordas is just a bone-headed runner, frankly. Going out in last place worked for him a couple times last year and now he can’t get himself off that tactic, or adjust on the fly to different scenarios. Today he was dead last at 800 in 1:55.4 and must have thought “OH SH1T,” ran his next 400 in 55.5 (compared with 56.2 for Jakob and Nuguse), passing people on the curves to move up to 8th, and then bit it and faded back to 11th. Maybe he places 6th in 3:31.high or so if he doesn’t run like a moran.

Fair enough! But 1:55 running in lane 1 was jogging to last year’s Nordas. He had a pretty large margin for error. This year, he just looks diminished…

NO NO NO NO!!!!!!! Sodium bicarbonate doesn't make you sprint 1 second faster days apart in a mile race sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It also doesn't make you beat both clean athletes Jakob and Kerr at one go who are 2 of the best athletes in the mile!!!!!
Let’s face it, we all know that Hocker’s Olympic gold was a fluke. It was just one of those odd occasions when all the stars align.

It wasn’t a fluke, but it just shows you how hard it is to consistently perform at the top. It’s pretty clear that the hierarchy is as follows rn:

2a Hobbs

3: Neil Gourley, Arese, Tim C, …
On any day that Jakob falters or is weakened, then he is vulnerable to 1a-1c. These runners often don’t perform at their best, so they often lose to Jakob.

If someone has an outlier performance to win at the Olympics then falls off that standard afterward back to their baseline. Is that more suss of well timed performance enhancing drugs that are now no longer offering any benefit, or is it more in keeping with the “cant hold a peak for long if natty”. I’m not sure.
Or maybe his primary goal this season - the goal that has consumed him - was winning Olympic gold. Now that he has accomplished that perhaps his motivation is not quite the same. Tara Davis-Woodhall said in an interview the other day how hard it was to keep training and competing now that the olympics is over. Maybe Hocker was able to really dig in Paris in a way that just isn't happening for a Diamond League circuit race.
There is scientific research that supports that once a goal is accomplished motivation definitely declines. Maybe that explains the drop offs we are seeing since Paris rather than runners coming off the dope. Maybe the stars who called it a season after Paris aren't ducking competition but understand this and see no need to keep pushing for races that are not related to their main goal.
So, that result will qualify Kerr for the DL final. The Big Four are all qualified, the question is how many turn up in Brussels. I can't see Kerr flying back to he US for 5th Ave then flying back to Belgium. Jakob will run, of course, and I expect Nuguse will as well. Hocker is a question mark.
I also noticed Elliot Giles is in the final along with Hoare. I guess there'll both try to salvage something from their seasons

I think this is solely true for the “racer” types like Cole or Centro. Their advantages in running a shorter line, having a big kick and measuring out when to go are diminished in the fast DL races. Those guys seem much more at ease when they don’t have to measure how fast is too fast and when they should start their kick off an all-out effort up front.
I saw thec1500m race Great race by Neguse to outkick Ingerbritsen. Hocker came in third wasnt even in the picture for 2nd or first. Same for Kerr. I think Hocker needs to believe he can lead the race instead of running g fro. Behind all the time. Hocker still is young and I think he will find the perfect strategy.
