Did anyone put together the fact that they pulled the COVID 5 year from the runners, knowing they were going to get a new coach and wanting to open up the roster?

Schools aren't obligated to give COVID 5th years to people, even if no rules were broken.
They have roster limits. Every 5th year that returns takes away a roster spot for an incoming freshman and that really hurts the team long term.
Regardless, Duke graciously wanted to give them a 5th year until they broke so many rules. It's their own fault.
Was he single at the time? His divorce was a few years ago if I recall correctly. Still slimy on his part. And the fact that sprinter / field event female athletes would spend time with him away from practice always rubbed me the wrong way. Seemed to always be 1-2 per year. Even if nothing bad happened, the optics aren’t good and obvious favoritism doesn’t help team morale.

Sure, and also they threw a giant party with underage drinking that sent a student to the hospital, so there is that?
this is one of the more accurate posts on this thread. Personally know someone that did an official visit to Penn State and didn't like it due to Reckart. Also have a kid that did an official to Duke and opted elsewhere because of Reckart. Child felt Reckart was impersonal, a bit rude, and non-welcoming while on official visit. Child thought Cooke was much better in terms of recruiting vs. Reckart and is glad they gave Duke a pass.
“She asked me if I had faith and then suggested, ‘maybe that’s something you should try,’” Armentrout said, noting that he is not a religious person and that he felt dismissed by Reckart. “When I was at the single lowest point in my life, she tried to change my religion.” Reckart and Cooke then suggested that Armentrout take some time away from the team.
I'm a neutral observer and don't know the athletes or the coaches in this situation. I am a former college runner who now has kids who are looking at colleges, which is why I looked at this thread.
It looks like you originally created this post to try and make the former coach look bad, but honestly it's a poor reflection on the team members. I think the coach was right in their actions. The word "neglect" keeps coming up in the article. What were these kids expecting from the coach? Were there difference expectations for emotional support because she is a female coach?
When I ran in college I went to practice and followed the training. I don't remember much support needed beyond that. The coach isn't a therapist. If you're dealing with mental health issues or alcohol addiction, then you should see a professional.
Additionally, it looks like there was a heavy party culture and a problem with kids missing practices. The article states 2 fast women runners transfers. Is it possible they transferred because the team wasn't focused and they wanted a more serious program?
From my perspective it looked like she wanted athletes who took running seriously and that some of these runners were used to partying, skipping practices and even showing up hungover and/or drunk to practice. When she cracked down on the behavior, the kids threw a temper tantrum and got the coaches fired.
All these supposedly old-school, personal responsibility types keep missing some key pointers.
Sure, does this make the runners on the team look good? Nope.
Nevertheless, the coach is responsible at the end of the day for the team—chemistry, culture, dedication, and all.
This coach lost the team. She deserved to be forced to move on, regardless of whether the kids may have also done stupid things (as college kids are want to do).

Full stop.
Irresponsible, uncoachable, disrespectful, entitled athletes with little self awareness. Where is the evidence of these Duke University runners have the values that demonstrate anything but gang behavior and blame?
total heresay and just because you say it and post it, does not make it true. Character assinations are so easy on LR.
Where were any of those things prior to the in season party that blew up and sent people to the hospital. Athletes and coaches with character assinations on LR are such a joke.
Right.
There was no negative talk about Reck on any threads on this board before this article was published.
There is certainly nowhere on this site where similar claims of emotional abuse/neglect/bad training can be found against Reck, and CERTAINLY not referring to her time at PSU, either.
(Do NOT I repeat do NOT check the open job discussion board!!!)
Character assassinations are easy; what about articles signed by all but one members of a team? Are those also easily dismissible?
Can you refute the claims of one troubled athlete without denying the experiences of 30 others?
This holds no water. It can take years for victims to speak up.
So who was it that the coaches should have put the "heat" on instead of the people who lived in the house? They had to do something since the Duke admin was notified, right?
