I was recruited out of high school by Lananna to run at Dartmouth (yes, I’m old). Even though he had a dominate program at the time, he still went out his way to badmouth the other Ivies - the only coach who really did that. I ended up choosing another school. No great loss for him as I barely would have cracked his varsity team, but I left feeling like he was not a good guy. He WAS a great coach, tho.
What cheating was he fired for? Have known him for 40 years, and he is what he is. Uses the system to his advantage better than anybody. Doesn't make him bad, just willing to take that extra step that most folks don't see or are afraid to do. Good coach, not a bad awful person, relentless worker. Most of his detractors just not strong enough to deal with him.
Talk about damning with faint praise. This sounds like the excuse given for every jerk in life.
Look at his title when hired at Oregon. Asst Ad and Director of TFXC I believe. I think the Oberlin gig was arranged so that he could have AD experience on his resume when Daddy Phil came a callin'. Never asked him, just seemed logical given what happened next. Never heard about him getting in trouble at Stanford, just that those "Cardinal" schollies made his scholarship budget worth about 30 when the kids rotated off Athletic money and onto a "Cardinal".

Vin Lananna was penalized from Stanford and the NCAA for his wrong doings at Stanford. This is common knowledge among coaches and the running industry in the early 2000’s. His reputation was beyond dishonest. I have no problem with competitive coach’s that want to win or be on top. Vin Lananna on the other hand is one of the most dishonest coaches in Track & Field from the 90’s to current times. It was much easier to hide his dirty laundry in the 90’s than it is today. Vin getting greedy and taking another job after Oregon at UVA just opened the door to exposing the person only the insiders knew in the 90’s. ”What goes around comes around.”
Hi UCLA boys and alumni, are you planning to gather with one another to watch the NCAA cross country championships on tv so you can all cry together about Vin’s continued success while lamenting the sorry state of UCLA’s program?

I don’t think it’s the UCLA boys posting as much as it is the old, recently fired coach. He’s a prolific poster for starters and from what I hear, only a few were sad to see him go while quite a few others would gladly buy Vin a beer if in fact he’s actually responsible for the firing.

So true. Which is why Vin has been working at some of the highest profiles jobs in the NCAA for decades while someone else couldn't even make it through one year at a dumpster fire of a program.
I think the majority agree and have experienced Vin Lananna being a cheat and completely dishonest. I think we can move on from this thread. Someone with Lananna’s past and actions will have a lot of haters for good reason. I’m sorry but it’s true.
If you’re a fan of Vin Lananna listen to me. Stop letting these posts bother you. No one really cares about these threads except Wejo and Rojo. They are laughing $$$
it’s good to see this post fade. Be the bigger man and don’t reply In support. Otherwise we go in circles, I promise.
Vin Lananna has been at the heart of controversy for his entire career. I am not familiar with his wrong doings at Stanford, but would never put it past the man. What I do know is Lananna is more than a coach breaking some NCAA rules to feed his ego. The department of US justice had multiple investigations against Vin Lananna and Michael Riley involving the world championships and Track Town USA. To say it nicely Vin Lananna was asked to leave Oregon for a reason. I’m personally shocked Vin has convinced another school to hire him after this complete mess he cussed. The corruption goes deeper than most people realize. It seems with all this talk Vin Lananna’s ego will come back to get him. That usually happens to serial criminals and that seems to be happening now.
I was coached by Vin at one of his head coaching gigs and had nothing but great experiences. He had a varsity five that could compete with almost any team in the nation but he made time for everyone else and seemed to actually care about them. Vin put me on the travel team even though I was at the tail end of the team and pack.
I have nothing but good things to say about Vin's personal conduct and coaching.
That said...the events described happened many years ago.
I was also coached by Lananna and personally I never trusted the guy. I understand he was just our coach though. The guys would joke and call him the Tin Man with no heart. I will admit at times he was fine to be around. Although he would tell recruits how close he was with is athletes and the truth was those athletes couldn’t stand him. Lananna is the ultimate used car salesman.

This is the information that goes much deeper than most will ever know.

Those first two sentences don’t support each other. If you are not familiar with his time at Stanford (or Dartmouth or CW Post before that), then you are not qualified to make a statement about his entire career.
As for your claim about the DOJ investigating Vin not once but multiple times, I have only one response: 😆😆😆😆😆

You really need to let this go.
Vin has done many people wrong and broke many rules along the way. You have every right to be his friend but that doesn’t take away from all the dishonest ways he has chosen
Why do I need to let it go? I didn’t create this thread. I’m just responding to baseless accusations. If anything, the BroJos should delete this entire thread. They should not allow public figures to be slandered.
