I think at this point, we should just let Ellie be Ellie, as the very idiosyncratic person she is, and stop trying to understand her from afar. There've been 211 posts in this thread, and none of them (my own included) have shed any actual light on her college plans or her mentality. Do I have real concerns about her? Yes. But we have no reason to think she cares or even listens to what those outside her immediate circle think she "should" do.
I think she's going to Harvard (because of her family's Ivy League connection) but will not run for them. Decision time would have been last summer or fall. She was tearing it up on the track at that time so why change coaches? And if Harvard is not going to compensate you for running for them, why bother?
That way she can control her own schedule. If she wants time off to study for finals, no problem. She can adjust her schedule however she feels will best balance her educational and athletic goals.
But I could also see her taking a gap year if she's undecided about running for a college and wants to give it some more time before closing that door. Either way, her silence is probably just a way to keep from having to justify her decision to a bunch of people she doesn't even know.
Nonsense, incredibly presumptuous to assume she was accepted to Harvard without athletic help in the admissions department. I’m sure she’s smart, but let’s be real, this is one of the most selective colleges in country
She decided to go to NC State in December. It's not a big deal to people at her high school.

No. According to the insider at Shea's high school, Shea decided to go to NC State in December. Has any other top high school runner deliberately choosen to lie about where they were going to college all the way until after they had actually graduated from high school? Very strange behavior.

I did dismiss those posts, but even though they turned out to be true, I'm not apologizing. This user created their account on the very day they made that first post, implying with their username they were speaking for the school itself -- that's supposed to command trust? And assuming now that they did have inside information, they shared it many months before Shea's team officially wanted it shared. Maybe at that point she was leaning strongly toward it but not 100% decided. If that's the case, no, the user shouldn't be thanked for leaking personal info about a HS student.
With all this said -- as I wrote in another thread -- I'm genuinely thrilled that she's going to NC State. I think it's likely the best choice she could've possibly made.

Just caught up on this thread. Certain people here should be ashamed of themself, especially the clearly mentally ill person that called this girl a liar. You clearly need to take a break, seek therapy and do some soul searching. Ellie Shea is classy and very, very well liked. Please develop other interests.
