Ha Ha it is late for that. NC St has F runners who can do 400s at that pace, or faster, or 800s at that pace. Plenty of training partners - some change with what the workout is.
I’m not so sure. I saw a YouTube with Monson being paced by one of the OAC male runners in a pace that I would guess was in the 31 or 32 range. Would Sam Bush or another 800 runner pace Tuohy? I’m not so sure.

Sounds like she doesn’t really have an appropriate training partner for chasing the 3K record. ‘We have speed people and we have strength people’, and the implication is that Tuohy is on a different level from either of these groups since she uniquely is capable of combining strength and speed. As another commentator for Flotrack indicated, she’s rapidly reaching a point where she needs to assess whether NCAA’s are the proper competition or it’s time to move on…
Is Tuohy next to Cranny on the Millrose start list?
She s position 9 which might be on the outside non staggered
I just now see a note where positions 1-10 are on the start/finish line so yes it looks like it will be Tuohy next to Cranny on the outside at the start. Monson will be up ahead.

Tuohy will have to get out hard to not get trapped in the middle or at the back.

well she is on the outside - I'd take that over where Henes is (lane 1).

lol but the inside lanes on the staggered are the ones most likely to get trapped and not the outside lanes because its OUTSIDE and theres only 4 runners on her outside

Watch the video from last year and you will see what I mean

Going out ‘hard’ has never been an issue for Tuohy. I’m just hoping the entire race is an honest pace to give her a chance for a PR or possibly a CR. In other words, not a tactical race…

There is no way its tactical for the leaders up front. Can't say same about the chase pack.
It's not an official record attempt, but Monson is going for AR, Cranny there to challenge her. I predict sub 8:30 for the winner.

Agreed. Maybe high 20’s for Monson/Cranny and mid to low 40’s for Tuohy. On paper the conditions/competition is ripe for PR’s, though you never know…
I wonder if Henes is considering a move to pro coaching and if so how would that affect Tuohy’s timing? I don’t know if KT is close to graduating this year but I can see how talented the XC team is going to be this year, if both Tuohy and Chmiel stick around, and if so I can see a 3peat for NCState.
On the pro front I can see On as a good fit for KT and LH.

Coach Henes is writing workouts for Hannah Steelman. Steelman runs for On but is based in Flagstaff with Elly Henes.
I doubt Coach Henes would leave nc state. I suppose Tuohy could stay with her but moving to a pro group like OAC in boulder that has talent across all distances 800-10k would be better to get to reach next level after college imho.

That is odd that Steelman would take coaching from her college coach rather than the talented coaches at On, who are successfully guiding Monson, who is also a distance specialist. I’m not sure why Henes wouldn’t entertain a move from NCState instead of rebuilding her program without the same superstars she has going into the fall of ‘23. She could continue their development at the next level, if she moves as well.

Maybe it was not an option offered to her? On and OAC are different. OAC is Ritz's group. For example, Wayment is also sponsored by On but coached by Diljeet Taylor.

Coach Henes 99% lifer at NC ST. She's very happy....
Tuohy/Chmiel 99% likely to both run '23 xc.
Future - Elly Henes and KT are both already Adidas athletes, EH pro and KT forging the new world of NIL. Assume Adidas has inside track for KT's eventual pro move.
Stay at NC ST? With nil, there are now many options and 'pros n cons'. A huge factor is how fast she runs this outdoor, how she competes at usatf this summer and what is a realistic goal for '24 team. So, we can revisit this topic in July with better data.

In this case the "going out hard" means sprinting for the first 100 to get into the right position -against a number of others trying to do the same.
