NC State women can't get accepted anywhere else? Simply not accurate. I was with the NC State team at ACC XC and was impressed by the academic credentials of most of the team. Many of these women could have gone virtually anywhere. State is a solid school with a very welcoming culture - has been that way for 40 years.
Of course they can go elsewhere. NC State is far from the worst school in the NCAA. They are an above average school but don't be silly to put the school on the level of many of the qualifying schools. Looking through the list, schools that are much harder to get into include, UNC, Notre Dame, UVA, Georgetown, Stanford, Washington, Wisconsin, Michigan, Norhtwestern, and Texas. Many of the NC State women couldn't get admitted to many of those schools. Same holds true for NAU.
I agree. NAU men and NC State women have that advantage of accepting average students who couldn't get accepted to most of the schools who qualify for nationals because they have better academics.
I made a post in response to this nonsense a few months ago. NC State is ranked #79 by US News and World Report among all colleges in the United States - which is pretty high, considering how many colleges there are. And NC State is ranked much higher than virtually every other school at the top of the distance running world right now - including BYU, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Alabama, and New Mexico.
True, but much easier to get admitted to than 1/2 of the schools that qualified for nationals. And it is worse than more than 1/2 of ACC schools. Just facts. It makes it easier to have a great team than if average ACT is 32 and acceptance rate is 15%.
Acceptance rates are much different for regular couch potatoes and stud athletes. Very few schools (especially the power 5 type) are going to not accept a blue chip athlete that can spell their own name if it means winning something.

Exactly. Are we to believe that these supposed “elite” academic schools like Florida, Notre Dame, Michigan (and whoever else he is touting) is going to refuse acceptance to top 20/30 high school or transfer running recruits because their ACT score is a little below their average? Yeah right.
Why isn’t this phenomenon taking place in other sports like football? Shouldn’t Notre Dame, Florida, and Michigan be struggling to find football players they can accept? Or do all their football players have over 30 ACT scores?
No they don't struggle because the top ranked football players who are also smart, take their full ride scholarship at a school like Stanford or Michigan or Notre Dame which all cost $85K nexy year. My neighbor's son went to Stanford on a basketball scholarship. He had a 35 on his ACT.
No they don't turn down top athketes who are a bit below their average but the average is 34 at elite schools. The average at NAU is 22. So the smartest kids at NAU are dumber than the average kids at Stanford.

I thought the argument being made here was that NC State could get athletes that “couldn’t get accepted” at the supposed “elite” academic schools like Florida and Michigan?
You are admitting that, YES, even the “elite” academic schools like Florida and Michigan will admit elite athletes who have low ACT scores and GPA out of high school.
Schools like Florida and Michigan are NOT at some disadvantage because they are not able to accept athletes with lower academics. That’s preposterous.
