The sunglasses aren't a screw up at all but were totally intentional. Yes they are distinctive as well, but again intentional. He screwed up because he didn't think the photos of people that far back at the start of the race would be taken for all to look at.

Please let me explain.

If Kip had wore those at "anytime at all" while hovering around the start line before the slow jog, he would have been remembered because people looking at the photos searching for themselves would have saw his 2:57 finish photo in the first page or two while looking for their own finishing photos and then upon finding their photos on the last page or pages, bam there's the guy with the sunglasses again.

Why would he stand out? How many people wore sunglasses that day let alone mirror type ones that stand out big time? Not many if any all even if you count spectators. I would have remembered him for sure if I had seen him at the start and then again at the finish, the photo would have iced it for me and I can't be the only one.

Again, Kip screwed up because he didn't think photographs would have been taken that far back, but he was wrong. He thought he was all alone at that point with no evidence except for people's memories which can be simply explained away as it wasn't me or they must be wrong.

Looking at the photos, which I guarantee you he has, Kip knows that this race alone busts him, let alone all of the other photos, videos, odd times from the first half to the second half, off on the shoulder of Boston with NO NUMBER, the list goes on.

He will take a long break or pull an Oscar Miranda and not race ever again. And yes, I was the poster on this thread that first said he will make money on this and I won't be the last as I still believe it.

off course oscar, did you dig through lost&found photos and race videos? The sunglasses made those searches MUCH easier. In any given race you'd see thousands of middle aged guys wearing the same type of gear...but only one with those sunglasses. There was no reason to wear them when running in "anonymous mode" with bib hidden. I think it was a screwup which led to a lot of photographic evidence.

I couldn't sleep last night so I spent some time surfing the Internet and such. Well it dawned on me, have you guys noticed how many times he is wearing something from Boston. Like shorts with the BAA symbol or on one of the marathons he "ran" he had a BAA singlet on near the finish.

It is obvious he does this for more ego inflation then anything. I know very few people who wear Boston stuff. If they have anything they have "the jacket."

One other thing, in the video of the marathon start from NY, he is coming at the camera sideways... not running in a straight line. I also thought that was odd unless he was already heading to the sidewalk.

Anyway just some points to ponder.

I don't think you are understanding my point. Him not wearing them at the start was intentional, so that he "didn't" stand out or was remembered. In that race, how many people wore sunglasses in the shown photos? If you wore them at the start, you "would" be remembered by many people at the start because of it. Not wearing them would have saved him, except for the unexpected photos that he didn't expect to be seen. Trust me, not wearing them at the start was intentional.

there were so few finishers at South Dakota it probably made it easier.

if i recall correctly, Kip crossed the line for what would've been like 3rd place at a TRAIL marathon in close to what he says on athlinks.com profile his marathon PR is (and you know, any race on trails is generally a lot slower than road marathon ). i haven't seen the course at this trail marathon so I dont know how much slower it'd be than your typical road marathon. Kip's not in any results because of the DQ, but from the finish photo it looks like Kip crossed the finish in a GUN time of 2:57:10, and i dont know what Kip's chip/gun differential was from him just standing there for awhile, so it's possible Kip actually tried to pull off a mid-to-low 2:50s. this is very suspicious to do at a TRAIL marathon (to be this close to a PR), and i didnt do any research on this but i bet the runners at Deadwood SD who finished in 1st and 2nd have run much faster marathons elsewhere than they did that day at Deadwood.

also, the finish photos look like he's just competed in a nice 800m/1200m outdoor track race all-out (@ >100%max heartrate), instead of the <80% max HR but total "hit the wall"-look you see in a marathon finisher. and not suggesting from this alone he cheated (we have a lot better stuff to show that), but just my opinion

The fascinating thing with the deadwood picture sequence is that the person of interest is seen looking backward, standing 10 meters behind the starting mat as the last of the stragglers takeoff - probably making sure he was THE last one to start and that no one was noticing.

He then jogs slowly with hands in pockets (who does that??) - trying to be an unobtrusive as possible to probably make it look like he in fact is a spectator or non-entered jogger or race official.

Then he looks at watch once everything is confirmed and plan is in place.

Did anyone else notice the woman entrant who was taking a pic or video right near him?

and im not sure what Kip is still looking back at because there is still a group of like 6-7 runners behind him. also the guy who might be a race staffer is in dark blue at the starting line.

you forgot about Crim 10miler which he ran across in ~56mins & was Disqualified but kept in the athlinks results.

I grew up in Custer South Dakota and the Deadwood Mickleson Trail marathon is not a true trail marathon. It's a rails to trails, so the grades are all gentle, and the footing is compacted crushed gravel. When it's dry and I'm visiting my parents, I often ride my road bike on it and don't think twice about it. I'd say the total effect of the footing, grades, and elevation (at least a mile high at all points) is maybe 10 minutes, and the winners' times are usually close to 3 hours.

That being said, this is a course that is impossible to cheat on without help (an accomplice). If you attempt to skip a head, there is a fairly large detour required in a car. There are a couple of places that the trail parallels the road where it would be easier, but you couldn't gain much in those locations.

It's tough nut to crack. Obviously there's plenty of evidence that he's cheating in this race, and I believe he did, but I'm still scratching my head a bit. The course is point to point with only a few main roads that meet up with it. The rest are county roads. There are however, many snowmobile trails in this area, all of which allow motorized ORVs when there is no snow. However, for a non-local, this would require some extreme research. Of course, we can't put that past Kipster if he was willing to make up fictitious runners, races, and FB friends...

As with everyone on this thread, I just wish I was there. It could be as simple as someone else starting the race and dropping the ship off at a pre-determined location, as it appears as though he has legitimately finished half marathons on pace for a sub 3 hour. Also, the second half of this particular race is all down-hill.

I thought he wanted to start last because the more people he passed, the more he got for his charity? I find nothing fascinating about this.

However, I do agree that it IS fascinating that once he hits the start mat, he just continues to walk. People that are trying to get cash for their charities by passing X number of runners I think would all just take off once they hit the start mat. But he just keeps walking right along.

I wasnt aware of any passing incentive. I know some high profile athletes have done this in NYCM for charities. I just find the whole story weirdly fascinating as do most posters here.

I also dont know if any of the 1/2's run were legit or indicators of sub 3. The legit half was 1:28 in Maine. That is not consistent with sub 3 ability.

Yes, I looked into it - communicating w/the local CF chapter. I was told they hadn't received any money from Kip. Don't read into this - who's to know if anybody actually contributed any money in his name?

I did a cursory search of 501 charities in the same zip code as KL's dental business and didn't come across anything that looked like it was associated with him, running, or CF. It was mostly a bunch of 4-H clubs. I haven't looked at the surrounding zip codes and I don't know if I will. It looks like a dead end. He was accepting donations for CF research to his website at one point. I don't know where that money went. After being confronted about it he took down the site.

Yes the lady taking a pic was noticed by many.

Absolutely he is making it look like he's a spectator, that's his plan. No number exposed and he's just walking. Many spectators do the walk/jog thing after runners have left the start area.

Once he starts jogging and has crossed the line he makes his way to his vehicle/bike/friend/rocket ship/whatever and heads to a good spot. He then changes a thing or two and bam! He can jump in with an old sweat shirt and keep it on until he feels comfortable. Then when no one is behind him he takes it off and has on what he will finish with.

Unfortunately for him he's gotten DQ'ed because it just doesn't add up. I've broken 2:30 and at 5:43 per mile pace, you are not going to get away with it over and over. Kip is in no man's land, depending on the race location and number of entrants. Even at 3 hours he got too greedy and the 21 century technology got him. Then someone starts a website and things behind to build.
