Victoria is easily the best place to train in the country as a distance runner. Victoria gets about 1/3 less rain than Vancouver and the majority of the rain that Victoria gets occurs overnight.
I was just on the Speed River website and noticed its club fees are about $1500 a year. Junior and Senior athletes. So I was like is that a touch high? Checks how much it would be to put a kid into known bank breaker hockey...about $600-$700 a season. Am I taking crazy pills here in thinking this needs to be talked about?
Hmm I am on the team and neither I or my teammates had a meeting last week or have any idea with what is happening besides DST being on personal leave. It’s quite interesting to read this thread when people claim they have insider info when people on the team don’t even know whats going on. Stop pretending you have information for fake validation on the internet.
I will start with my usual caveat that I have no idea if DST has done anything that warrants an investigation or not. And if he has, he should answer for that.
That said, I find it so amusing that if you were to read this thread as an outsider, you would be led to believe that everyone hates Dave, all his athletes hate him and have hated him for his whole career, he has been involved in corruption at the university level, the CIAU level, and the athletics Canada level, been an out right bully, and operated on the wrong side of the line constantly, his staff covering up for him (but also hate him).
He may have done something wrong, I have no idea if he did or didn’t, but it seems difficult to believe that he built what is/was arguably the strongest running group in Canadian history, without at least some good qualities and support. That isn’t to excuse anything that he may have done (if anything) , it’s just to throw a dose of reality on some of the hysteria being brought forth on this thread.

Absolutely, $1500 a year for high school kids to run around in parks is ridiculous. A lot of other clubs in Ontario are next to free

Andrea Seccafien is training in Australia. I think she is now on her third track club after leaving SR. She doesn’t like Dave but I doubt anything serious happened there, other than disagreements. Dave developed her into a world class runner. She owes a lot to Dave and SR for making her the runner she is today.
Got to jump in here and take a hard pass on that one. As someone who has trained with Andrea I'd say it's a shame she didn't get the opportunity to get away sooner. The idea that she "owes" anything to him, let alone "a lot" can take a hike.
Also like, was she even sub 16 at Guelph? Maybe just. Joins UTTC and goes from like 16:00s/15:50s to running 15:17 and an Olympian in her first year. Goes onto Australia and within two years is a world finalist and sub 15.

You sure you read the Hockey Fees right? That sounds like the fees you're paying to put your kid in the "House Leagues" (recreation - one game and one practice per week). If we're talking "Rep" Hockey (Travel - competitive and multiple days/week), you might have missed a zero onto your amount for Hockey.
Still an insane fee to join a club like Speed River or U. Toronto T.C.

He may not of optimized her training, or she may have benefitted from a ton of preparatory work that she did with him, or she might’ve just matured into improved times – – but none of that is a scandal. Or has any relevance on the thread topic.
It was in response to a comment claiming that Andrea owes something to DST for developing her into a world class athlete. No, it doesn't have any relevance on the thread topic, but neither did the post they were replying to.

I thought the training mate said DST turned her into a world class athlete , and and she owes him ...... I would agree if she was a high school runner .
Gen Lalonde leaving DST and Guelph is a big change, leading into an Olympic Year. Probably it’s been coming for a while.

I think the issue here, is Canada's running community is tight, yet spread across a massive country. So we have this little community where absolutely everyone is behind a keyboard. Many anonymous.
You put all those same people into a room together and it's all, "hey, howya doing, buddy?"
The other issues are "pockets" and "camps" or cliques. Guelph, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Halifax....etc .....
