Steve Magness Issues Passionate Rebuttal To Alberto Salazar’s Open Letter

The smelliest explanation from the Oregon project is the story about Galen being worried about being patted on the bag after a win and being sabotaged. While I think that Alberto and Galen would be paranoid enough to go to great lengths to prevent a possible sabotage; you would think that it would involve not hugging spectators after the race or cooling down/stretching in a controlled place or something, or videoing Galen after the race to make sure he's not wiped with a foreign substance. What good is it to determine the exact amount of androgel that a person would need to wipe on you to sabotage you? I mean, if Galen feels any liquid on his back - he knows he has a problem. Why do you need to know the precise amount that would set off alarms? It seems to me that any synthetic testosterone in liquid format being wiped into your open pores right before a piss test and after a race will greatly increase your chances of failing a drug test... why do you need to measure to determine the precise amount? Also, does Alberto really think Justin Gatlin was innocent? Unlikely. I think it's likely that Alberto was micro-dosing Galen as reported as he's a trusted pupil of Alberto who's competitive drive in the sport matches only Alberto himself. That being said, there is no hard evidence.

Claiming you are worried about being sabotaged is nothing more than making an excuse in case you fail a test.

A real investigation that needs to be done is where is Salazar getting his extra drugs from? More than likely Asia. More than likely hard to trace. Since Salazar has admitted sending athlete's "their" prescriptions secretly through the mail, the question is: why do you have other people prescriptions, Salazar?

It is the oddest part of the story. It sounds paranoid and I am not sure of the point of the test. But he did call it in. And he seemed to tell lots of people about his prescription So it is what it is. I just accept it and won't think about it further unless USADA comes out with something or other evidence come out.Frankly, after this, it sounds like microdosing is pretty easy. Lots of others could be doing it but not be suspected. so why speculate too much?

Why did dathan leave al sal for real? I know it was said to be back home to raise family as he is downside to career but dathan with al sals drug serums would be top marathoner and not injured with consistent training.

Jay Johnson nike guy and Steve's friend and hasn't said anything but has always retweeted clean sport tweets steve and others make.

Steve has nothing to gain financially or the other runners coming forward. Yeah there's no concrete evidence yet but with people coming forward there maybe some cracks made to make it all fall.

Maybe not, but David Epstein has this book out (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sports_Gene) that basically says that black runners are genetically superior to white. Should Galen Rupp go on to win WC this year and/or the olympics next year that theory will be shot to bits and the book turned into a huge turd floating downstream side by side with Epsteins academic credibility.

For your part, you seem intent on maintaining the belief that Salazar's admitting to pushing the limits of legal substance use implies that he';s gone no further than that. You appear to dismiss anything that doesn't mention the outright use of EPO, hGH or "top tier" PEDs as evidence that can be safely discarded.

Does this mean that if a former NOP starts talking about witnessing EPO use within the program, you'll change your mind? What level of evidence would you accept? The same 12 to 14 people talking about this drug rather than inhalers, thyroxine or prednisone? A squashed positive test or "hot" biological passport? These aren't meant to be leading questions; I really am curious what would tip the people now leaning toward the NOP being technically free of rule-breaking in the opposite direction. The reason Salazar gave for experimenting with steroid gel on his sons strikes me as an absolute farce, but obviously there are numerous people out there willing to accept it with no more than a shrug.

Easy, to cover his tracks in case an awkward, disgruntled aspiring long distance coach or anyone else reports something. Alberto isn't dumb. Good for him. He reported the suspicious and probably fictitious hug to cover his tracks. Again, the act of testing a controlled and prescribed medicine on your kids or anyone else that is meant for you is against the law and highly suspicious. There is really only one reason to do it and paranoia of a false positive is not a good one imo. That being said, Kara and Steve should know that they are going up against someone with a fighting acumen and they simply aren't equipped to combat. I'm actually a big fan of Kara and I sometimes read Steve's blog. There is simply no real evidence of wrongdoing or it would have come out by now. Enjoyed watching Centro over the last 800 today.

I notice letsrun no longer links to this thread from their main page after they heavily featured it. Clearly it is because magness' comments against Salazar/nop have been discredited.
