I watched Kosgei's race at Penn this year- he looked to me like he rolled his ankle off the penultimate water jump and seemed to be limping the last lap. "Jog" is the only word to describe his last 100m or so; I'm sure he was just being cautious not to jeopardize his season by running hard and risking further damage to a hurt ankle when he had the auto time guaranteed.

I think we can expect a lot of qualifiers out of the Clarkson meet this weekend. With the depth and talent they have there 10-15 automatic qualifiers wouldn't be out of the question. They have a real shot at taking track nationals this year...YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! To add insult to injury they might have to hottest girls team in the country. Luck guys over there, let me tell you...
Its a shame Rupp and O'Brien are in separate heats at Payton Jordan, that would have been cool to see.
I only meant he "jogged" the steeple at nats!! I obviously wasn't serious that it was a jog but all i was saying was that he didn't have to push himself that hard. Definitely not as hard as Kaul did in the 10k. That's pretty sick he still ran 8:43 at Penn if he had some trouble with the barriers. Wow. What happened this year?

Whoops, I think I was confused. I thought you were commenting on him "jogging" the steeple THIS year at Penn because he had run 8:43 the year before.
Last year I also saw him run at Penn and he ran a fantastic race (with, as far as I can tell, no jogging, easing up, or trouble with barriers).
Last year, at nationals, yes, he did seem to have a pretty easy ride in the steeplechase.
This year at Penn, he seemed to roll his ankle on the second to last water jump and eased in (hopefully, he isn't injured).

Looks like Kaul is only running the 1500 at WIAC this weekend. And he doesn't have a time so he'll be in the slow heat. Way to be a team player Willy. I bet your teammates really appreciate the fact that you're not going to provide an easy 20 points in the 5K and 10K and instead you're going to mess around in the 15.
Oshkosh is a team preparing to win nationals, not win the WIAC conference meet.
It isn't worth it to have Kaul do a 10k/5k double
Kaul could have messed around and run a 3:57 (1500) at one of the earlier meets he did not run a, could he not? He could also win the conference 10k or 5k with relative comfort most likely. It is weird that he has to be NT'd into conference. Well, he should be fresh.
a WIAC confrence meet is pratically nationals
He will be in the 4x800 as well as he usually is. Oshkosh is defending champs in that event.
I'm pretty sure Kaul could run whatever he wanted right now. I'd like to see what he could run against a fit Kosgei in a 5k.
The more I think about the SUNYAC meet the better I think it could be. I think it will be interesting to see what Heyman does with the 5k and 10k. It seems reasonable to assume that the Cortland guys might run a fast 5k so they can have the option to double at nationals (like Cloke and Joslyn did). I hope the 1500 is a good race too. Wager and Viglione for Cortland seem to rounding into form and if they run fast there's a good chance that Mark Streb of Geneseo could run fast too. I think it's also important to note that Fredonia has some guys knocking on the door. I've been really impressed with how their team has been performing and they could come up with some big races.
I think we can expect to see some qualifiers out of the NYSCTC meet this weekend as well. I would guess that Wendy Pavlus will be gunning for a steeple qualifier. There is the potential for good womens 1500 and 800 races too. Eric Jones has also been impressive in his first outdoor season in the hammer. It will be interesting to seen what Mike Hardbarger and Dan Ramsey do in their respective events too.
ClarksonXC, perhaps your ability to comprehend passages was greatly enhanced by the class you took at Clarkson, but SLU is a University, and therefore doesn't focus on things their students learned in grade school. It's true that SLU has no auto-qualifiers, however, they do have a track team. Perhaps, in your next class, you will learn about irony, and then you will be able to understand what I was doing with my post. One day maybe your school will get a track team and I can talk about how they are going to do at SUNYACs.
