Katy Zang took down Mary Cain's 2013 high school record in the 2-mile at New Balance Nationals Indoor, running 9:37.15. Zang is the second fastest all-conditions performer of all time; only Jane Hedengren has run faster outdo...
Has anyone explained how she was 30th at her state meet and 13th at NXR Midwest in November to all time great in March?
I mentioned that she has been injured most of her high school career. Being healthy and having natural talent has brought the results that she is capable of. Many in Ohio that have been familiar with her as a runner probably aren’t as surprised with these results as most are.
Yes, we may have another Athing Mu (I don’t run on the rail), Parker Valby (I don’t run tangents) on our hands.
We should also add the I take all my splits
BTW: how many extra meters do you run on the outside of lane 1 on an indoor track for half the race and then in the middle of lane 1 for the rest (for a mile). 30m to 40m?
Did you even watch the race? She was out in lane 2 early because the pacesetter would not get out of the way. This girl wanted to get after it, and would likely have run faster without a pacesetter obstructing lane 1.

it had nothing to do with my.🙄
Actually, I did watch the race. The pacer was going fast enough. She could have stuck behind her and saved 30m to 40m in the process. In addition to not going out so hard.

Math is your friend
You don’t know that if she had slowed down, the pushed pacer then would have to.
Nope, no one knows. We’re all wondering the same thing.
Eating more? She mentions she’s been working on fixing inadequate intake.
Hate to say it, but losing weight? It’s visible from last spring to now. Whether this is healthy or not - no one except for her and her doctors can say for sure. Could be concerning, especially given her injury history.
Combined, losing weight then adding back in more fuel could have some effect.
Recent consistency and avoidance of injuries? She’s strung together several months without interruptions now, something she’s never done before. That can go a LONG way. Speaking from experience.
Cross training methods? She loves to cross train and seems to spend a TON of hours in the gym. She doesn’t fool around on there either, she gets in a solid effort as discussed.
When all together, those things will make a difference. But there have certainly been other athletes in very similar situations who have not absolutely exploded like this. So what’s missing?

What are you talking about? Pacesetters are not supposed to "get out of the way." The entire point of a pacesetter is to "be in the way" of all the other runners, so that the pacer can, you know, pace them.
If Katy Zang wanted to pass the pacesetter then she had the right to do that. But running in lane 2 for half of the race is not a good idea.

No. The only information that reporters have been able to get out of Katy Zang is generic stuff like she is training harder, eating better, and sleeping more. Nothing that explains how she went from being pretty good to being faster than Mary Cain in just a few months.
