Few thoughts - just went though all the results

1. I haven't been this excited for the women's championship race in a long time at nationals. This is gonna be so insanely good. Jane (18:29? holy cow!) vs Doris, NC State vs Oregon vs others, ect.

2. I still consider Samuel the heavy favorite (sub 27 + tons of championship experience + absolute dog) but Hansen threw down a dominant performance today. Very excited by the fact that he's still more of a 1500/5000 guy. Indoor is gonna be awesome.

3. Who the heck is Abdel Laadjel?

4. I'm telling you guys, Tam Gavenas is something really, really, special. 2nd at Heps as a true freshman.

Since the ACC was not on the ACC Network today is it going to be shown if/when contract negotiations are settled between ESPN & YouTube TV? I assume that it may have possibly been on other cable carriers? Does anyone know?

What did happen to Hartman? In looking over the splits it seems like she blew up in the last 1-1+ K. She has tremendous talent but does not always race tactically sound. I know that she came a bit late to running, somewhere around her freshman year of HS, but still has enough experience to not error like that. Henes is going to have to rein her in a bit.

Who does Henes sit for the regional meet in 2 weeks? They qualify easily to the NC so there are more than a few that can use the rest.

On another note, Briley Bickerstaff has developed nicely. She was the 8th runner for the Wolfpack today but she is way ahead of where she was when she came to Raleigh as a freshman. She would have been a scoring runner today for every team other than Notre Dame and would have been Stanford & Virginia's 4th runner.

It was on ACC Network and replay is available on ACCNX. Hartman must have misjudged her effort as she looked good through 5K but at about 5500 it was clear she was tiring and tightening up. I would rest either Hartman or Gapes but I would especially have whoever runs kind of go on cruise control. Templier ran nice for her first race of the season. Putman is struggling some. Michalak and Engelhardt have been rock-steady.

I hate the Kenyan import system as it is right now but "American College distance running is officially dead" is an exaggeration if i've ever heard one. We just saw an American woman destroy one of the best XC fields in America by 45 seconds, a true freshman get second at Heps, Hansen and Martin deliver a 1-2 USA smackdown in ACCs, and an American NC state roster dominate.

By the way, very impressed by Sadie, who was very much NOT known for her XC exploits in HS. She was the best at a state level but it never translated up. Bodes very very well for her on the track.

They are good and as an Oregonian it's hard to say I'm not a fan. Considering if we remove the top 3 or even top 2 runners from the lineup they fall way back. Wish they didn't take the route they are on.

Not sure I get your drift but if it's complaining about demfurners what would you have them do? Fact is, only a few U.S. runners coming out of high school each year project as top flight runners. So if other schools have scooped up the best of the best the schools who lost the recruiting war will look overseas. It would be great if 15 Jane Hedengrens came out each year, but that's not the reality.

2nd with the largest margin of victory in 61 years, but yeah between this and nuttycombe it looks like he’ll be pretty good

No way, not with Iona always running there, and back when the Iona Meet of Champions used to be a real big meet. Lots of other conference meets used to be there too. Idk what the record is, but definitely not that slow.

RunnerSpace should've produced that meet instead of B1G Ten Network. Their analyst (Sara Kroll) called one of Oregon's Kenyans Canadian, and Anika Thompson "Anika Sisson".

Englehardt actually was known for xcountry when she took down the Woodward Park record, and there was a debate whether the speed ratings were biased. She unfortunately picked up an injury that negatively affected her post-season at NXN.

As far as the upcoming track goes, there does exist the possibility for some mid-distance runners that more emphasis on greater mileage can be to the detriment of their raw speed. But that axiom is highly variable among runners, and their circumstances.
