It’s not at all clear what compelling interest the government has to force labeling of intersex people into a binary classification. It’s a lot easier to just let them be, give them the dignity of their identification, and not subject anyone to intrusive inspection procedures. (Unfortunately, you won’t find much sympathy for this view on these boards.)

As for sport, the regulatory bodies are doing fine without the intervention of US law, and at least at the global stage, US law is mostly irrelevant.

It wasn’t just travelers. It was residents. Locking people in their homes, stopping them from working, forcibly confining them, and coercing them into being injected with anything let alone a product less than a year old tested chiefly by the folks selling it is the stuff of authoritarianism.

If you’re thinking of things in terms of “right” and “left” you’re already a tool for folks who hate you. This bi-polar “spectrum” is divisive and designed to lump people into tribes that can be pitted against one another. The terms “far” are added when folks are drifting outside of the acceptable discourse.

How does changing a label on a form not let them be? I agree that having any form at all is always objectionable. Nevertheless these categories existed before forms. Still, if forms are to exist, they will exist to impose a certain order on things, not to reflect all of reality.

For example, I have hazel eyes as green as they are brown. Most forms only give an option for brown. It does not match reality. I tick brown and get on with it. No dignity lost. It is just a dumb form.

Some folks have gray eyes, some appear nearly black, others are red. And what does a colorblind person put? What they see or what most others see?

How much important scientific work is based on Newtonian physics that apparently merely approximate reality? Are there any models that aren’t approximations, which are at best hopefully useful for the purposes to which they are applied?

How would one maintain a list of various intersex conditions for the form? Surely simply adding “other” is far too broad and strips sufferers of each condition from some specific flavor of “dignity.” And what is to stop people who aren’t intersex from ticking “other?” There seem to be far more folks in that category than actual intersex people.

The goal is not to perfectly reflect reality. It has nothing to do with dignity. It is to impose order for practical purposes.

Whose interest is served by reclassifying Alicia as a man? Maybe some men who want to see her use men's bathrooms and locker rooms?

Trump administration wants to reclassify Alicia as a man, and force her to change the gender market on her passport to "male." So she cannot "carry one as she wishes. That applies to all the intersex people whose "reproductive organs and genetics" do not match their current legal sex.

If the democrats didn’t align themselves with nutcases who want to “reassign” the gender of children and allow males suffering from gender dysmorphia to compete against women, they wouldn’t have to lost the election and have to watch all trans rights go out the window. The democrats pushed for too much and ended up losing everything as a result. Lesson learned. If you want political power, don’t pander to extreme trans rights groups.

This really says all that needs to be said about your ignorance of the issue.

You seem to be completely obtuse with regard to the actual impacts of administrative classifications.

As a doctor (and as a human), I can think of countless reasons that a person's ability to identify beyond "Y chromosome present" or "no Y chromosome present" could have tremendous impacts on their health care (and their life).

They will say that Semenya was "born of the sex that produces sperm" and that this should somehow be determined for all people at birth.

Since they have no practical proposal as to how that would actually be done at birth, they endorse forcibly reclassifying people at such time as it becomes apparent.

That is to say, if their daughters, like Semenya, have female genitalia in childhood but turn out later in life to actually be XY due to various conditions, they would forcibly reclassify them.

These people are deranged...Thank God Trump is in power and these wackos are being relegated to the trash heap of history...

That's the thing about the Trump side's approach on this.

They simply don't think through how sex would be determined at birth. It seems that they truly believe that penis vs vagina can reliably make this distinction, even though of course XY "male" people can have a vagina and XX "female" people can have a penis.

Thus, they believe that the government should forcibly reclassify people like Semenya or you, from the gender their parents and doctor gave them at birth to what the state dictates.

They would apparently do this to their own daughters if they learned at puberty that they are actually XY.

I also talk to these patient about their goals for growing a family, taking into account both their biological sex and their gender identity.
