There is no place for political violence in this country. No assassination attempts. No January 6th. That's war and terrorism, not politics.
Routh was a gun nut (like the assassin in PA). He was arrested 20 years ago for barricading himself in his business in a standoff with the police over his ownership of a machine gun. He has had other weapons charges against him.
He seems to style himself as a crusading vigilante. He was applauded in 1991 for defending a woman from an alleged rapist. He voted for Trump in 2016. He supported Tulsi Gabbard in 2020. He wanted Vivek and Nikki over Trump this year and now supports Biden/ Harris/ Walz. He is not pro-anything. He is NOW anti-Trump. He is also anti-Russia and has raised money for Ukraine and travelled there and tried to get former Afghan soldiers to fight for Ukraine.
The guy was ... out there on the fringe. Yes, guns do play a role in this violence and the assassination attempts. It's obvious, obvious, obvious. Without the lax gun laws in this country, these assassins would be protesting Trump at his rallies and throwing eggs, not bullets at him.

1) Just to get this out there, IF someone successfully assassinates Trump, Trump is a clear victim there, and I never blame victims.
2) Donald Trump has a delusion that he is figuratively and literally bullet proof, and so far, that has proven to be correct because he is still a free man walking about freely. He will not change his rhetoric. He is incapable of doing so.
Election Day can't get here soon enough. We need to get past this dark Trumpism.
This is just another liability to add next to his name. We can't have a senile president getting shot at left and right with the likes of Vance to potentially take over. We need to move on from this $hit stain.

If our kids can't go to school without the fear of gun violence, why would anyone expect that our political candidates should fare any better? When the rhetoric behind the 2nd amendment shifted from protecting people who just wanted to own firearms to protect their families, go hunting or target shooting to owning firearms as a means of taking up arms against a tyrannical government, we set ourselves on this path of school shooting, political violence and assassination attempts. The 2nd amendment zealots have sent a clear message to every crazed individual in our society. Guns empower you against those you hate, whether it is the kids at your school who bully you incessantly, the immigrants shopping at Walmart, the black people attending church or the political leader you hate.
