I can see this outcome if it's a slower race with lots of fighting for positioning behind Jakob while Hocker manages to run a clean race from behind and charges hard toward the end.
Maybe team Jakob could give potato Tim a secret 5k reward to serve as pacemaker again. That'll completely change the calculus.
Timothy was one of the worst moving athletes in the heats and semi-finals. A good rule of thumb is you need to dominate and win or be 2nd in the heat to really be the outright favorite in the finals.
Look at Makloufi Daddy from London 2012, he blasted the heats, semi-finals and finals in the same exact way, gapping the field over the last 300m by at least 20-30 meters all the time. I'm not saying every athlete needs to be like Mak Daddy, but it's a guideline you feeling me sir?????
Very basic requirement, gotta win all your heats and semi-finals dominantly like a boss, or come in 2nd.
Dear Steve, dear LRC and the world, listen to me right now, I have the best SIXTH SENSE out of all the human beings of the world and I'm telling you Josh Kerr moved his body the best in both the heats and semi-finals.
Movement, you folks feeling me?????????????????
Movement is what it's about folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Movement of the legs, the arms, the shoulders, the ankles, feet, everything you feeling me folks?????????
Movement is ENERGY, FREQUENCY AND VIBRATION, you feeling me folks???????
Movement is RF energy and the nerves at the back of my retina are very responsive to RF energy, you feeling me folks????????
My nerves are telling me Josh KERR's movements have the highest most sumptuous quality RF energy of all the competitors in the 1500m final.
My nerves are impacted the most by KERR's diversity and variability of biomechanical movement alright?????
We are just 6 hours away now from crowning the darn Olympic Champion in the 1500m Josh KERR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you folks all feeling it??????
FEEL IT DAMN IT!!!!!! It's not the damn stats it's the damn feeling!!!!!
The good old song: I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes .... Feelings is not a very good predictor. But if you feel it ... so if Kerr wins you think that your feelings are proven right?
Wrong wrong wrong wrong.
You are speaking of the mentally retarded and schizophrenic or bipolar manic disorder. Those folks cannot have 'reliable feelings' because they have 'lost their minds' to retardation, schizophrenia and bipolarism, you feeling me sir????
But you are talking to the world's No. 1 MIND ENERGY/POWER that is me Khamis the RF King which is the same as Mind King. RF=MIND, you feeling me sir????????????
For persons with very resilient, very powerful, very righteous, very moral and ethical MINDS their feelings are above suspicion you feeling me sir??????????? Like a MONK's MIND right sir?????
Their feelings are set apart as untouchable like a relic or a treasure, you feeling me?????
People like us understand the BRAIN/MIND better than any other folk that ever lived or will live you feeling me because we understand and work with RF!!!!!!!!!
So no, feelings can be the final say and be 'more objective' than stats, you feeling me sir???
Because my mind is made of MONK then MONK's feelings are excepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually surprised. Down votes not so much higher than up votes... maybe some Jakob femboys are coming to their senses.
Well, I for instance upvote you in your sensible posts, and downvote you when you are talking hogwash. Think this is the case with a lot of people on this forum. You have some sensible and constructive posts, that I enjoy reading! Ill give you that.
Just too bad you also got a ton of those dumb remarks and terrible extrapolations(which are just telling of a terrible IQ/extremely low understanding of math). And they are not witty either, so if you are trolling with them which I hope, I just would have wished that you were blessed with better humor. It just polludes the conversation, which you actually set off nicely here with some interesting predictions.
I admit to pumping up Kerr. The sport benefits from a rivalry and that's Kerr v Jakob in the 1500. Jakob fans are overly protective of him and want to project him as dominant in the 1500, but by the real measure of global hardware he's not it in this event yet. I too like Jakob, but I admire Kerr being able to catapult himself into the front and challenging Jakob's dominance. He even gives credit to Jakob for his amazing achievements and no one doubts he's a generational star and talent, but like Kerr said he's not the king of the 1500. And no matter how many DL races he wins, that won't change unless he's winning global championships. Take away the pacers and lights and suddenly Jakob is not dominant. I cheer for Kerr because I think he has worked harder and has focused on the biggest prize more than any other 1500 runner this year, and because him winning gold here will cement this rivalry for many years to come and that is great for the sport. I also admit I enjoy him getting into Jakob's head. Jakob denies it, but he's talked about Kerr a lot since last year which is telling.
May it be a battle for the ages and may the loser give respect to the winner instead of making excuses.

Potato Tim is not going home with any hardware, hence my joke about paying him to pace.
Come on guys, it's not even a question -- Jakob will win, hands down (if healthy of course...). Kerr didn't seem too sharp to me during the rounds honestly, I have Hocker for silver, with Kerr/Goose/Tim battling it out for bronze. We'll see in a couple hours.
I didn't find it credible because 1) we didn't hear about it before the final,
No one would tell your competitors before the race that you are not well. Many close to him to knew about it of course and it was pretty obvious after in the interviews after that he had a sore throat. How reduced he was is for us pure speculation, but he was also happy about his performance that day, which he would not be if he was 100% (I think)
2) he lined up to race so clearly he believed he was ready to win,
I can't say he would have won that day no matter what, but he is not afraid of losing and he would give it a shot if there was a chance. It was the same for the 5000m. He was not at all sure he could win that one
3) he crushed that 5k convincingly. A sick runner would not have gotten better and looked that good after running rounds and giving it all in a final.
he did not crush that 5K convincingly. He barely won, and only won because the other runners basically handed it to him by going slow. He was not sick, but certainly not 100%.
4) he is a narcissist and naturally sought to cover his ego.
This is a disrespectful comment and not necessary in a interesting discussion about who will win the 1500m in the olympics. All the best runners and athletes in general have to have a high ego/prioritize themselves 100% and be overly confident to perform at the top. Kerr and even Cole Hocker and probably others are sure they can win. Nothing wrong with that and is probably a necessity. It should be ok to be a fan of Kerr without having to say Jacob is a loser, poor runner, an idiot and so on. It should be ok to be a fan of Jacob without saying Kerr is a loser, poor runner or an idiot. Several of the 1500m runners now are fantastic and pushing each other to new levels with Jacob setting the required new level. Jacob has proven for a longer period he is one of the best middle distance runners for many years. This is a fact. Kerr has shown improvement this year from being "best of the rest" last year. He has yet to show his top level so will be a very interesting race. I personally think people are underestimating Jacob's kick ability after a couple of 55/56s laps but maybe we are also underestimating Kerr's capacity. My prediction (or maybe hope) is Jacob winning the kick battle with Kerr in 3.28 range but I am not in anyway certain.
What I am certain of is that both Jacob I and Josh Kerr deserves respect from all of us athletic fans. . I think ultimately they respect each other professionally also. Whether they play mind games with each other or even dislike each other privately is up to them and is just how life is sometimes.

I don't know if he's being counted out but the facts are that Jakob, Kerr, Nuguse, Hocker, Cheruiyot, and Komen all have a stronger argument for a medal if the race plays out roughly according to expectations. Kessler is a fantastic runner and will be a serious threat in LA but it says a lot that a 2-second PB to 3:29 with a good close will probably not get him on the podium (and that's an absolute best case scenario).
As the biggest Kessler shill on here, I would say this is fair. The one thing that would overly encourage me and a prediction upward, is he has looked really solid in his rounds..no real straining, no real panic buttons hit. He closed his slower first race in 1:49.5 , if he can punch down sub 40.00 last 300, he might get close to medals.
As most of the other finalists, Kessler is a really good runner. The problem with these statements about Cole Hocker and Kesslers chances is that they would have to be in 2nd or 3rd place position when starting kicking and with sufficient energy left in the tank for it to be a realistic scenario. They never are because there are better/faster runners taking those positions and running so fast that pure kicking is not a factor. Of course there could be a slow, chaotic and tactical race, but we haven't seen that in years and I don't see it happening this time either, but who knows
I expect Jakob to take the lead at about 300m. What I’m not sure of is whether Kerr will try and repeat Eugene and hit the front with 600 or so to go. Depends how fast Jakob takes it out.
Kerr might win only if he is at his best while Jakob is having a really bad day. Kerr will not even medal on a bad day as he has proven multiple times.

Everyone in this thread is assuming Kerr has improved over 1500/mile because of his impressive indoor runs over 3k/2 mile. But, history has shown that improvements at one distance do not necessarily result in improvements at another. He clearly hasn't gotten better at 800m based on his performance at British champs (not withstanding his fall in the final), so I'm not entirely convinced he is significantly better at 1500/mile. His Pre Classic result was marginally better than his Tokyo Olympic performance, but I haven't seen anything that indicates he can run 3:27, much less 3:26. I have an inkling that his overemphasis on being as lean as possible is going to come back to bite him in the form of a lack of strength/power at the end of a fast 1500m.
Will a Gold medal tomorrow convince you otherwise, or do you also stand ready to make excuses for Jakob?
A gold medal for Kerr tomorrow would or at least should convince many of his improvement and would be very impressive. Would a gold for Jacob change your view?

No, a gold medal for either asserts them as the king of the 1500. For Kerr, it's a back to back beating of Jakob in a global championship. For Jakob, it's getting over losing twice after winning in Tokyo with a pacer. The king of the 1500 is on the line here.

Nah, KERR runs and moves INSTINCTIVELY you feeling me sir?????
Whereas Jakob only runs 1 way, from the front and all-out LOL!!!!!! That's why he is not gonna win because everybody predicts his movements!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jakob lacks DECEPTIVENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hence he lacks KILLER TOUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you commit espionage on your enemy if your enemy knows your every movement?????? No right?????????????????
And that's why Jakob is the first one to lose the gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KERR is the winner already because nobody knows him. Nobody knows how he will move, operate, strategize. It's all up in the air and this is the most dangerous scenario for your enemy when they know sh*t about your movements!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahahahaha, agree with your take, Jakob will go home twice beaten back to back. Shame on him, how could he be so woeful on the track???????
Jakob can't move his body around the track as well as KERR during the semi-finals, way too stiff and rusty at the joints and not compact enough like KERR whose body was just rocking a shiny luster and glimmer of a high-strung stride energy!!!!
