Nice of you to restore it. But might be nice to edit the thread title to be more neutral. The adjective "mercilessly" is silly and makes no sense there, and is obviously just inflammatory. (I'm not even on the pro-gun side, but I still oppose silly inflammatory stuff and all the crazy ad hominem stuff on this message board.)
Title in inflammatory. that is actually why it was probably deleted. Should people be able to discuss the shooting of the dog yes. But when there is a thread with a title like that it likely is meant to just stir it up even more than just discussing the topic so the mods are likely to delete it. standard mods can't change a title.

Well, there is a bug or feature request worth looking into, I suggest. I think there are probably lots of threads with needlessly inflammatory titles.
The problem with ad hominem attacks being prevalent and derailing discussions all the time is certainly worse (this thread shows it happening), but, still I suggest looking into a solution for being able to allow discussion of a controversial topic without mods having to choose to allow needlessly inflammatory titles.

I agree with this. Someone else said "why can't people just ignore the insults and quit responding?" That is a complicated issue.
But I think a much better question is "why can't people just quit posting insults?" And the obvious answer is that they apparently can't, so, therefore, a yet better question is:

First, Wejo, how many anti-trans posts are you going to allow? After a while, seeing the same people posting the same material time and again under assumed user names is tiresome, and no new information is ever forthcoming. It is the same people with the same arguments, often crossing lines into misgendering and name calling and it never stops.
Newname is an antisemite. We all know it, so if you allow him to state that Jews control Hollywood- it is never about Jews controlling Hollywood. It is always in yoke to additional antisemitic content. Whether it is Jamin, Kobbs Hessler, NewName or any of the other ones who regularly create havoc on this board, you end up requiring us to do the moderation. There is more antisemitism here than anywhere I else I visit online. It is embarrassing and absolutely nothing you should be proud of. I'm Jewish and I know it when I see it; I've lived it my entire life and to allow even a comment as the one you said you would (about Hollywood) speaks tons to me. Nothing antisemitic should be allowed, period. Nothing bigoted- no more of the snide Baltimore posts, for example- which seem kind of benign on the surface but are designed to provoke bigoted responses. You know this.
It may be because I am older (71) that I take it seriously. You have tons of high-schoolers and college kids here who grew up posting crap under anonymous names and it wastes much of what you can accomplish with this site. For them it is just trolling fun and killing time and provoking responses; for me, it is painful to come here and now to consider bailing from this site again.

I think people might say you're anti-semitic from the collective body of your posts. You constantly deny anything negative about October 7th and focus on the atrocities of Israel. Then you also post to links about the power Jewish people have in the government.
Some may concur you just don't like Jewish people at worst or are close minded at best. You seem to be a bit conspiratorial with a lot of your posts so I can give you the benefit of the doubt.
Now perhaps you just think Israel's response is too much and they are using propaganda to enhance their side, but then just say that.
Who knows, people say I hate trans people because I don't think males should compete in female sport and you could argue you are fine with Jews, you just don't like what Israel is doing. But you don't come across that way. You act like some secret cabal is running the country which is an antisemetic trope.
You seem to think October 7th wasn't that big a deal? I think it was horrific. I'd give your current thoughts on Israel's response more wait if you didn't try and downplay October 7th.
1) We're going to create alerts for old threads that have posts in them so we can identify spam in advance of people reporting it. 2) We're going to add "Sex" as a protected class on our Rules page. 3) We're going to study if we should limit how many posts someone has in a thread or at least come up with a way to monitor people posting repeatedly in the same thread and see if this warrants further resources. 4) We're going to track some posters over time and see if we need to deal with their collective work rather than their individual posts. We generally like to evaluate each post on its own but should we modify this.
5) We've added a reason when reporting for posts for people to note the post is just in the run category. 6) What should our "misgendering" policy be. 7) Should we ban VPN servers?
