14:50 3 mile his junior year is equivalent to a 15:21 5k. His 3200 is 9:15. That is a great resume for being recruited as a junior. Very impressive congrats kid don't listen to these jealous idiots trying to bring down your credentials
The 3200 time is in the low 400's for the entire Country per Athletic dot net. That is all grades. If you just look at juniors it is low 100's. Will get plenty of looks from Colleges.
Don’t know anything about the runner signed from Reno. His times are not that impressive for NAU type of runner but give Coach Smith some credit for type of runners he recruits. We don’t know his training etc. just remember a few years ago two young men went to NAU who did not run that fast in high school they did pretty good. Does the names Tyler Day or Abi Nur ring a bell. This kid might pan out or might not a lot of blue chippers don’t pan out. There is just a lot of NAU haters out there and they look for anything to rip into them.
I mean there has to be some science behind it right? You don't just accept any 9:25 3200 guy (senior year pr) and turn them into world class runners. There must be a reason why NAU knew these guys were good
There’s more to evaluating a prospective athlete than just times. attitude, mindset, and personality are some factors to be considered. Can we stop with talking about this NAU kid? Who cares. Him going there doesn’t affect any of us.
Very happy to announce that the great Allison Ince of Normal, IL has committed to run for Oregon. Ali is simply one of the best female middle distance runners in high school history in my opinion but had to share the press with all time great peers like Juliette Whittaker and Roisin Willis and Sophia Gorriaran who were all in high school when Ali came onto the scene. But she held her own against them even shocking everyone and beating Willis as just a freshman in a thriller of a race.
Ali is the 2 time 400 IL State Champion, 3 time 800 IL State Champion, 1 time 1600 IL State Champion, 1 time New Balance Indoor 800 Champ and has won the 800 at Brooks PR three years in a row now. She also was part of the team that still holds the U20 DMR National record along with Whittaker and Willis and Mia Cochran.
Worth noting that Ince goes to a school and a city dominated by Nike with a New Balance NIL deal in tow. Does she continue that relationship? Are there any other ducks signed by non Nike sponsors? Not sure what the rules are with that or the informal expectations for these high school kids with competitor NIL deals. Its fairly rare among runners this young.
79th at Woodbridge. Maybe the kid talked to them and took it as a commitment.
Not remotely saying this is what happened here, but I know of a case where a kid decided to walk on at a school. He told Milesplit he was a commit to the school and was listed by them. All without even talking to the coach, who when he found out wouldn’t let the kid try out.
This kid attended the NAU camp over the summer and connected with the team and coaching staff. I’m sure Smith saw potential, perhaps is severely undertrained with a lot of upside or room for improvement. Surely NAU learned something we don’t know. They wouldn’t just blindly sign a kid with such underwhelming PRs.

NIL deals for high school athletes cannot extend into their time in college. They end when the athlete graduates high school. If the brand wants to re-up with that athlete during their college years, they can, but similarly that contract ends when the athlete graduates from college.
Ince doesn't have a contract with New Balance that extends into her time at Oregon. However, schools are letting athletes sign with brands not affiliated with their schools all the time now. The fact that athletes have to compete in school-issued gear in any in-season competition really restricts what an athlete can offer brands.
