Katelyn Tuohy and NC State blasts Flotrack's Gordon Mack

I think if NC St's top 4 (incl Seymour) run real well they are in top 25 but then the team score will depend on where their next runner is, whoever it is. NM could get in the way as they had 3 ahead of Bush at Nuttycombe and 2 more right behind her. You can't just say if this one runner does good, they win......for any team. People were putting numerous (4-5) NC St runners in top 15 all year and I have been pushing back all year that there are too many good runners to say that.

go watch some podcasts and his partner kevin just rolls his eyes at gordon's takes and things he says.. if not for the paycheck, he prob wont even befriend him

Any mature runner would have had fun with it. Most male 5th runners would love the attention. Their teammates would poke at them, not go public about how mean it is or strange it is for a reporter to talk about it.

They do this all the time in NCAA March madness and during the bowl games. It does matter how a star or non star places. Get used to the limelight. It’s your time to shine!

other than covering at most 1-2 meets on track szn and nothing on xc szn, most time of the year they are irrelevant and useless, just produces lame podcasts

basketball players earn off their names, xc runners dont, only flotrack making money using runners' names

Exactly! Anyone who has run xc has seen or been on a team where 1 runner blows up and tanks a team or 1 runner has the race of a lifetime and brings that pack score tighter. The guy from flo who said this may just be overdramatizing the storyline but that is what those guys on espn do on a daily basis. the team response is ok too, so how this goes as a dirty ol man obsessed with teen girls is a stretch.... leave that for college volleyball

Valby will make a lot of money off of her name and looks while the 5th player on a good college basketball team is not making anything. So you are incorrect in your anology to the NC State 5th runner. She is the same as a 5th many in basketball.

Well yes, it is possible to just get beat and still win but if she blows it by a lot of places they won't win.

You are only as good as your fith runner even in this scenario where you still win even though your 5th finished behind the 2nd place team 5th....its simple math and that's what makes team scores in cross country so compelling. Of course the other 4 have to carry their water but at the end of the day, where is the 5th runner? Is the 5th runner in? is their 5th runner in? How good are the 1-5? And lets not forget about the importance of the 6th and 7th runner.

NC State is no Notre Dame or Stanford. The runners don't seem to grasp this simple concept.

No. This is unprecedented. Obviously these women have been told that they are winners their entire lives regardless if they lose or fail.

ND and Stanford are outstanding academic institutions. The women there can do math and can see the logic in what Flotrack said. It is pretty basic. Guessing the NC State runners couldn't get admitted to those other top schools.
