53 miles...coming along slowly.
Hey Mileage for the Masses:
Just curious, do you keep most of your longer runs at that relatively slower pace? Obviously your other workouts are damned impressive, so do you usually chill on your longer day?
My bad...what was slotted for Columbus was actually CIM. I don't think anyone who has posted here is running Columbus. If they did, I missed it....
Honestly man you run 119 miles in a week and all you can do is sub 2:27?? Man with that kinda mileage you shouldnt have a problem breaking 2:20.I ran a 2:22 on 65 miles per week.what a waste of time for you to run so slow for so many damn miles a week
You have some pent-up frustrations, don't you? Calm down. I wasn't trying to challenge your manhood. I was just trying to figure out what you thought was doubtful. Perhaps you thought it was too slow or too fast. You didn't make that clear in your initial post. In either case, your opinion would have been enlightening - we could have learned something (yes, even from someone like you).
As it turns out, you were just trying to out someone about his workout times (a running buddy no less). I think most people on this thread would care less if people were dishonest about their training log. Seriously, who really cares?
This generally isn't a negative thread. We're just trying to figure out what everyone else is doing to prepare for similar things. If someone is pumping up their times, then I don't have a problem with it.
You are right, by the way - my mental math is bad. It should have been 6:06 pace. I converted the wrong way. .10 should have been multipled by six rather than divided....I digress...
Feel free to have the last word...
Wow, I wish I were you. Oh, no wait, then I would be bitter and go trolling the boards to bash folks in an effort to prop myself up while also gratuitously dropping my marathon PR that was run on hideously low mileage. Relax and give it rest. Maybe I enjoy big miles, and for the record, my long run courses are all measured. You're right, a fast training run doesn't mean shite if I can't perform on race day, but then again, that is the point of doing the training. Imagine what you could have done if you spent more time training to reach some challenging goals...
I'm running Cape Cod and will be aiming to run a sub-2:35. Let's say 2:33. My 10-year old PR of 2:36 must go down! I'm not going to bother posting my training from last week, as I was recovering from a 7/30 ultra. Going forward, I'll be aiming to run about 70 a week, with an additional 60 per-week on the bike and another 15 or so on the stairmaster/eliptical. Training details to come next week - I know you'll all be waiting with baited breath.
the trolls are out in force today!
Nice!

W-am:4 pm: 13 (steady 4, easy 2, steady 3, tempo 3, all-out 1...effortwise steady at 5:45-6:00/tempo at 5:20-30/all-out at 5:00-20 then sprint last few blocks)
T-am: 9 pm: 14
F-am: 12 pm: 3 w/8x:30 strides on grass
S-am: 8 (4mi race 20:59, 4th, neg split the whole way, good race considering mileage, not far off my actual 4 mi PR, not bad considering mileage) pm: 10
S-22, steady long run, some hills
Total: 116
Good mileage with most of it in the last 5 days. The last 4 weeks have been good. Hard efforts have been mostly tempo runs or steady runs. Slow times I'm sure with the weather, but great efforts. I think the weekly strides have helped me quite a bit. I felt a little more springy than usual during the last half of the 4mi race. I'll put in 4 weeks of 2-3 x week hill workouts, probably a "Lydiard" hill workout, a hill interval workout, and possibly a hilly tempo. Then 4 weeks of specific marathon and tempo work. Mileage should be 120+ except for a small taper for a Sept Half-marathon and a Sept 10k.
Alan
Congrats to WStuart for his 1/2M PR. Way to go!
Looks like the training is going really well, Alan.
What are you shooting for?
Goal: Chicago, 2:32
Fourth solid week in a row, plus a 10-mi PR!
M--AM: 7 w/ 12x100m strides; PM: 3 easy, then stretching & ice bath
T--PM: 3-mi w-up/ 10-mi race (hot&humid)/ 2-mi c-down
55:04 w/ last mile in 5:14; it felt like a tempo until 3 to go and then I tried to really race. It went just about perfectly, steadily passing people all the way, except I actually got seriously outkicked in the last 150m. Still, I was happy placing 12th, after getting 28th last year.
W--AM: 5.5 easy; PM: 10 easy
R--AM: 6 easy; PM: 10.25 w/ 4.13-mi @ 6:15 pace (shooting for MP, but legs were dead)
F--AM: 3 easy; PM: 13 easy
S--AM: 7.5-mi easy/ 5-mi @ MP (28:58)/ 2.5 c-down
Su--AM: 21 very easy (2:48, for the trolls)

Thanks for starting the thread notwithstanding. And what the hell has happened this week? I just read through the thread - so much negativity. Anyway, here's my week:
M - 80 mins total, broke my loop record for my mountain run by over 2 minutes
T - 60 mins very EZ, rained the whole time, even some hail
W - am 30/pm 66
T - 8 miles - 2x2400@8:33,8:26 w/ 2:00 rest, 8x200@37-38 w/ 1:00 rest
F - 60 mins very EZ
S - No run (class & travel all day)
S - 1/2 marathon = 1:16:40. 17 miles total.
So that's something like 60 or 65 miles for the week. The race on Sunday was a PR by 71 seconds but I'm still a little disappointed. I was on pace for low or sub 1:16 through 11 miles (1:03:36), but fell apart the last 2 miles (6:06 & 6:22 12th & 13th miles), mostly due to going out faster than normal (5:33 1st mile). I also PR'ed for 10k (35:37) and 10 miles (57:45) - by 27 & 39 seconds respectively. Anyway, I've got another 1/2 coming up on Sept 4th so will take another shot at getting under 1:16 then. Going out a little slower will probably do the trick.
Hope everyone has a great week. Also, notwithstanding - Philadelphia is on November 20th and is 15 weeks from today.
Goal: NYC 2:57
S: 18mi
M: 5mi recovery
T: 9mi (2mi w/u, 4mi tempo @ 6:15/mi pace, 2mi c/d) another oppressively hot and humid day in NYC
W: 11mi easy
Th: 6mi
F: off
S: 20mi
Total: 69mi
Bumped this week's long run forward a day to accommodate a group training run saturday morning. This week is a planned recovery week...
Huntingdon, 1, 11/13/05, 14 weeks remaining
Is this in West Virginia? I think it's spelled "Huntington"
Mike,
Keep it up. I am planning on using the same Pfitz schedule for Kiawah and am about the same speed as you. Look forward to seeing how it goes for you.

Have enjoyed reading this weekly thread -- is it too late to join in?
Goal: Sub-3hr, Detroit, 10/23/05
I'm female, 41 and Detroit will be my 2nd marathon and 2nd attempt at a sub-3hr. I ran 3:00:27 in Dec 2004...yeah, those 27 sec bug me.
Using the Pfitzinger plan. Cutback week at 77M in all singles with one double. Long run was only a 16-miler but with a low-key 5M race imbedded.
