This is the guy. His PB's are quite good, his marathon PR is irrelevant.

he's another nyc local west side runners guy. I mentioned this in the official nyc marathon thread. Whether a wsx guy was going to be the one pushing the pace.
one of these guys won the nyc half earlier this year if you'll remember
the brooklyn half is a very very easy half course, so interesting that his half there was slower than his marathon yesterday
He runs the Ridgewood Run in North Jersey every year. Good runner.

I think this tale has as much to do with the thin elite field as with this guy's individual performance on the day. It's a bit boggling that they couldn't fill out the field with some more sub 2:10 guys or at least some fast half marathoners for a debut.
His best till Sunday was 2:13:46 from Pittsburgh (this may)

Last year he finished 19th in NYC and 4th in Quad Cities Marathon. Didn't break 2:16 in either.
Note that there are several runners with a similar name.
He made $40k for third place. Hopefully he doesn’t fritter it away. For sure many will be knocking on his door. No guarantee he continues to be successful.

I suspect they diluted the field to get more Americans Olympic standards. When the trials became gold label it was too late to find more top tier elites.

Third place is $40k, per NYRR website. NYRR member 1st place prize is $5k
I find the footnote about woman eligibility to be quite curious. Is this to weed out men identifying as women? One can also interpret it to say women in the open field who are not professional runners are ineligible for prize money

Isn’t this all a bit disingenuous? He’s clearly an elite runner and has been for several years, he just happens to be unsponsored. His times at other distances are as good as most top elite sponsored American male runners.
