Wisconsin has probably the top NCAA distance program over the past 50 years. Weather seems to be good there for distance runners and that doesn’t include the summer which is great.

Didn't seem to be too much of a problem for Morgan this winter. Especially when you consider how little he worked out inside. Anyone who would be willing to join that group would understand this upfront. And there is always the option of going south for a training camp much like NJNY does.

Looks like they executed a plan that failed. They had Hirsch and Hacker fresh for the 5k but both bombed. They probably expected both of them to score so no real benefit to having McDonald run another race.

Wisconsin would have finished 6th as a team if McDonald won the 5k. Not worth it. That would have been a heinous waste of energy.
This has been stated to some extent already, but McDonald did NOT miss qualifying. He ran 29:26.06 and the last time in was 29:27.40. Had he declared for the 10k, he would have made it. Instead, he scratched.
He obviously wasn't trying to qualify because he was out of the top 48 before scratches. He knew the number going into the meet. He could have run 30 seconds faster and still set the race up for a final kick but he did not do that.
