Congrats to Jakob Ingebrigtsen for finishing 12th at World Jr XC. He's not afraid to lay it on the line.

He is a generational talent. He was #4 in the world over 1,500 at the (legitimate) age of 17.

On the other hand, he is not a generational talent at cross country or distance above 5k.

Any more excuses guys? We know white distance runners need all the excuses you can come up with to justify their losses. So far we got:

1. The other guys were doped,

2. The other guys were too old.

What's left? The other guys live at altitude? How about the other guys have an extra bone in their feet? Haven't heard that one in a while.

How many ahead of him were actually junior and have ever been drugs tested?

Point is that it really doesn't matter where Jakob ended up here. He did a fun run while other supposed "super" "teens" wouldn't dare..like Tefera and Managoi. The real running is coming up.

Questions about his placing in this tough mudder type circus event is like putting him in the pool and questioning how is it that he can't place in the top 10 Norwegian high schoolers for the 100 free.

This is an utterly ridiculous thread. The guy got his ass kicked and people are acting like he’s a frickin hero for it. He ran an off distance and got beaten, badly, by many people. Who cares? Is every 5k guy who hops in a 1500m also a noble hero? Every 10k guy who tries a marathon? I know young Jakob is the Great White Hope and all, but this thread is almost comically stupid and biased in premise.

If only all runners were willing to jump from indoor track straight to longer races on rough courses.

Jakob needs to get off the treadmill and onto some real CC if he expects to excel at it.

So who out of the people in front of him have any real status on the world stage? Who out of those has run a 3:31? Do you really think the guys that ended up in front of him matter on the world stage as Jakob does already?

I think the point you're missing is that an already impressive rising track star just entered an event which is very unusual for someone for his specialty and caliber to be doing. You do not think they would congratulate Rudisha for ending up in 12th in this race had he entered? What if Lebron entered and ended up 45th? You do not think they would make a big deal? I have a feeling you would. So you are the type that just can't stand anyone praising someone that happens to be white?

He got beat by a bunch of no-names, and you’re saying that makes the praise somehow more rather than even less justified? And 800m GOAT Rudisha finishing 12th in a star-studded 10k+ race would be considerably more impressive than 1500-5k man Jakob finishing 12th in a nobody-filled under-20 8k race. If Jakob had been 12th in the big boys’ race, the praise would be justifiable.

First of all he is a 1500meter runner (with some experience in 800,3k, 5k). He suck at hill racing and always have. He also enjoys slower starts than they did here. First time I defend Jakob. I am more of a fan for his brothers

From everything I'm reading hear, this is a bad look from Jakob. Losing soundly to a bunch of people know one had heard of is not something to go brag about. It would be like someone clapping for Galen Rupp racing Kipchoge and saying "well at least he had the guts to go out and lose by 5 minutes. Most other people wouldn't have bothered." It's cool I guess, but it doesn't excuse the loss. It's simply not the slightest bit impressive if he doesn't succeed.
