Trying to run quality mile so soon after cross country season ended???? What did you expect!
Remember when distance runners at schools like Oregon would peak for cross country and then outdoor NCAAs?
That's the way it should be for all distance runners.
Winter (indoor) track and spring (outdoor) track is for sprinters and field event guys and 800m runners who don't do xc.
All college track athletes should be peaking for two seasons ---- not three.
Who cares? It's one race. What were the splits?
Knight is done. Running is obviously not going to provide for him. Hope he's got something lined up out there in the workforce.
Good post. His focus has to be Worlds and deadlines are all steps to the end, with qualification being that Canadian combo of fast times, proving fitness, decent place at nationals. So it may be hard to focus at times. On IG he said it was a disappointing race but he won't let it define him. So either he thought he was in better shape than he is right now, or it was a bad day for some reason. He'll be back.

That's why my brother kind of liked marathons. You signed up for one and had to get in shape for it.
But in this case, he actually showed up instead of pushing it back.. SO maybe he thought he was in shape or maybe he was just sick - you know people do occasionally just have bad days - or a coach or agent wanted him to get a wakeup call.
The Syracuse University wall at the TSA checkpoint at SYR has a bug picture of Knight, noting a degree in social work, so he's got that to fall back on. Seriously, it was cool to see his face there and I hope he doesn't need the social work any time soon.
sorry guys but knight is done. he might have a nice appearance here and there and he will certainly always be a big name when fields are announced. but he isn't the chosen one. drew hunter is the chosen one.

It's one race! Justyn may have stepped to the starting line knowing he didn't have a chance at even a sub-4, yet still feeling willing to get race experience. He may have done a hard workout two days earlier, for all anyone knows. Or maybe he's been under the weather or challenged by an injury. Sometimes a runner puts his reputation on the line when he/she races when not nearly in top shape, but doesn't care what LetsRuns finest think, because running a hard (relatively) mile when knowingly sub-par is still experience. That's invaluable training, especially for a young runner.

When certain runners aren't doing as well as they want, they just quit (COUGH COUGH RUPP COUGH COUGH COUGH). So they have "no bad results" unless you look at their endless strings of DNS and DNF results (COUGH COUGH RUPP.)
Good for this guy for starting and finishing when things obviously weren't 100%. (FFS the guy broke 4 in his first mile ever.) I wish more runners had his GUTS.
