She went through half in under 1:10 meaning she is scheduled for a sub 2:20! That would be her personal best since currently her pb is 2:21.
Leul looks dangerous and might take this one. But he will have to work for it because Nobert Kigen (No. 3 )looks great and is my favorite to win here.
Strong finish by Leul.
That final 5k was very hectic and chaotic with all those motorcycles.
Congrats to Leul. I didn't expect much from Matthew Kisorio but he really surprised with all those surges. Got rewarded with a personal best and broke the Some family record of 2:05:38 which was held by his younger brother Peter Kimeli Some.
10th place was Benson Seurui in 2:07.37 at age 34, He was a 1:45 for 800 and 3:31.61 for 1500 runner, so great range.
Nice race and another top time, 10th performance of the year for Leule Gebrsellassie who already the 3rd spot after Dubai. Only two racers have two runs in the Top 10, Kipchoge and Gebrsellassie.
Just noticed that Kebede had finished 4th in 2:05:21 ! That has to be his best time in 5+ years (6 actually, since Chicago 2012) ? Biggest comeback ever? There is hope for Kimetto ;-)

Lydia Cheromei is 41 years! She had a 2.22.
Had to do a double-take here, didn't know he was still out there grinding away. Always had a soft spot for him, not a ton of wins to his name but always out there mixing it up. Chicago 2010 getting broken by Wanjiru is what I'll probably always remember about him though, lol.

Yeah he's really back from the dead !
I don't remember a top guy who'd disappeared come back like that ? Anyone ?

Yea, I thought he was retired. Wow, what a comeback.

Yes, one of his best times ever. Aside from the 2:04:30 in 2012, his other fastest times were 2:05:18, 2:05:19 and 2:05:20.
He was 3rd in London 2014 (2:06:30), and obviously up to then one for top marathoners in the world, but his results since then until today were underwhelming.
2:10:27. Berlin 2014 (9th)
2:07:58. Tokyo 2015 (8th)
2:10:56. Rotterdam 2016 (5th)
2:08:45. Tokyo 2017 (9th)
2:12:31. Hamburg 2017 (6th)
2:09:25. Barcelona 2018 (5th)
Maybe the biggest story here is El Abbassi of Bahrain (the stream I was watching kept showing an Ethiopian flag next to his name, but he looks more likely originally from Morocco to me?). Before this year he had 60:52 and 2:10:57 PBs (both 2017), then this year he ran 59:27 at the Valencia Half just over a month ago and now 2:04:43.
He did finish 2nd at the Asian Games marathon this year (very hot and humid) in 2:18ish I believe and has 13:19 and 27:25 track PBs
Just a funny thing to tell about El Abbasi at 2nd place and 2:04:42. He actually contacted me at Facebook a year ago and wanted me to coach him. I asked him who had coached him before and he said his contract with Renato Canova was just finished. I thought it looked interesting to coach him so I said yes. When I was about to start the coaching El Abbassi told me he had changed his mind because Canova would keep on coaching him. I asked Renato about the guy and he told me the guy was just giving a lie. Renato told he has never coached him! LoL
Good lord, everyone and their mother is running 2:04 these days. Maybe one day the USA will get another sub-2:10 marathoner.
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
