Adidas Sub2 on Running Warehouse

A lot of people find the Adios to be too thin in the forefoot and prefer the Boston. I don’t have personal experience with either shoe, but I have had trouble with comfort in longer races with shoes that have relatively thin forefoots, so I know where they are coming from.

It looks like the adios has a larger more substantial shank than the boston, which goes along with your description. Interesting then that the sub2 doesn't have it, unless it's buried in the boost similar to the nike streaks.

That was my experience. I love the Boston and use them for mileage and tempos. I tested a pair of adios for a couple workouts but returned them because they were so thin in the forefoot.

This looks to be a very different shoe from the adios. Much more forefoot cushioning. The Adios are a terrible marathon shoe if your a heavier forefoot striker. The takumi series were wonderful for forefoot strikers, but just sucked in the durability department and while they work up to the marathon distance are really ideal for shorter.

Probably the thin forefoot is going to be worse for people who land on their heel and then slap down the forefoot than those landing on their lateral mid/forefoot.

Is it actually thicker, though? Or it just looks thicker as a result of the lower drop and general design of the shoe. Let alone that we don't know how Boost light compares to regular Boost in term of cushioning, or how the reduced outsole will affect it (thinner and harder rubber would provide less cushion than thicker and softer).

One reason the midsole may look thicker than the Adios under the forefoot is because the Sub2 lacks the EVA rim.

If there is no eva rim and no torsion system it could be as mushy as anything.

I had read somewhere that it supposed tobe 150g.

This shoe mught be great, but coukd be a flop. Especially when compared to the vaporfly.

This looks amazing, but I really wish that they would have kept the Torsion System. It adds a lot of stability, which is really helpful, especially during longer distances.

haha, Matthias is such a German guy. but nice. really tempted to shell out some serious money. although I'm pretty sure neither this nor the 4%ers actually help you much. the Adidas marketing guy says they weigh 150gram compared to 230 for the Adios and are also lighter than the Takumi Sen. and they guarantee that they last for 4 marathons, or 200km. well, better not waste money on them

I’m willing to try these even for just the shorter distance races. I got some TPU midsole shoes and now my EVA racing flats just feel flat. Never liked the steep drop of the Adidas shoes, but maybe I’m just fast enough to benefit from it!

I'll try them at $90. $180 for an unproven racing shoe that Bekele didn't seem to like, and had massive delays in the launch? I don't see this competing with the VaporFly. I'd get the Adios for $100 now instead. Aren't most adidas athletes using the adios? Adios is amazing. Why the need for this shoe, which already flopped in 2016?

The above is my opinion for using this shoe in the marathon. It could be a great HM or 10km shoe. But $180.00? I'm getting the adios instead. There's not enough data or success on this new lighter TPU material to justify $180.

I'll try this shoe . I get a 25% discount from adidas . On a side note, i'm going on a first date with a girl at my local gym tonight.

Not sure which thread you are reading. Not sure which Bekele you are talking about either.. isn't he a Nike athlete? The Sub2 was used for the first time (publicly) in 2017. Only two guys have used it in the marathon to my knowledge.. Wilson Kipsang ran 2:03 in Toyko, Guye Adola ran 2:03 in Berlin and Kipsang finished second at the New York City Marathon. Out of three finishes with the Sub2, that's not bad. Certainly as good an average finishing time (if not better) as the Vaporfly 4% .

Thinking everyone needs to reinvent the running shoe is a bit extreme. Taking the Adios, which is the current WR holder btw, and making it slightly better, is a good improvement. The Vaporfly is very different than everything else, but remember that in actual legal races, it's still second to Adidas. If you count Boston, it's technically third in line behind the old Adios and Zoom Streak 3.
