Chicago listens to LetsRun? Chicago adds 4 sub 2:07 guys to take on Galen Rupp

JV cross-country races are competitive. Chicago is rapidly becoming a JV marathon. I want to see Rupp in a marathon that goes out in 62 minutes. Winning a race that has 5 guys jogging for 23 miles and running 14:00 for the last three miles is what Rupp will do. That's a waste of my Sunday morning.

If the weather is favorable, this race is the time for Rupp to show he can run in the 2:06 range. A tactical race is fine for the Olympics, but this is a course to run fast on.

The hatred for the lack of rabbits drives me nuts.

Personally, I always loved watching Boston when I was in college as being unrabbited it was the only race where I saw Americans stay with the lead pack.

A marathon with the Olympic silver and bronze medallists, the former WR holder, the half marathon WR holder, a world champion and others is not a JV marathon.

My biggest fear was there weren't enough people. If 2-3 of them were off their game a 2:10 type effort might win it. Now I don't have that fear.

It amazes me that so few people can be nuances. Just because something isn't the best, that doesnt' mean it's the worst. Chicago clearly isn't London but it's also not the Marine Corps marathon.

I'm a fan of lack of rabbits. To me it makes it more of a tactical race versus just keeping up with someone.

I think Droddy will drop a sub 2:10 because his majestic hair will earn an insane amount of fan support.

Rupp's high water mark (as far as greater than 10K distances) was the half he ran in Portland (I believe) to quality for the Olympic Trials Marathon.

And I think we can all see now that his home in the Pacific NW is harming, more than helping him. Any time the sun is out, the race isn't in the evening, or the temperature is "hot," out come the excuses. There isn't a single Rupp fan here who can see how he's faded in all three of his marathons, and that in the Olympics and at Boston, the guy who beat him was speeding up.

Someone earlier said they weren't interested in a 23 mile jog then 5K barnburner, like we'll probably see in Chicago.

Put these two things together, and what you're going to see at 23.3 miles is Rupp fading out of focus. And the excuses starting to fly.

And this 2:08/2:07 talk that's always floated by Rupp believers? Firstly, he needs to run that fast. A 2:07 high is two minutes faster than his 2:09.58, so, uh, okay. And considering that Rupp IS a 2:10 guy in a world where the other guys are 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 minutes faster, he's historically the 2:13 guy when the WR was 2:08. Just saying.

Please show us all the guys who have ran 5,6,7,8, and 10 minutes faster AT BOSTON, much less in 75 degree heat. Also, which guys ran 5,6,7,8, and 10 minutes faster in THE OLYMPICS, or more specifically, IN RIO last year? We'll be waiting.......

This is an honest question, not trolling.

Because other posters claimed the sub 2:07 guys who were added are no longer capable of those times. They are in slower shape. Never mind that two of the four are younger, and the other two are the exact same age ... Rupp defies age and is sub 2:07 shape, as his fanbois love to claim.

Nibiru (Planet X) better hit earth or pass real close by or whatever Saturday, or those experts saying a killer planet is out there will be wrong (for the fourth or fifth time).

And Rupp better run a 2:06 or 2:07 or 2:08 Sunday, because one or more of those other dudes will.
