The French (and most others) would actually be with Bush on this if he and his administration weren\'t so arrogant and condescending. A diplomat he\'s not. With his Iraq policy and his idea of preemptive strikes, he\'s mainly proved how good he is at dividing the world, so soon after everyone backed him and us after 9/11.

This is all a distraction from domestic issues for which he has no answers. Rallying the people is easy when you\'re about to go to war. This ain\'t nothing new. Republicans and Democrats have done it for years. And they\'ll continue to do so.

And that's because no one knows arrogant and condescending quite like the French.

I believe that France has the right to avoid this war and to protest.

BUT.....LISTEN UP JASON...... they do not get to chose how I react to them. They canprotest threaten and yell and scream if they chose to. BUT I can chose to not buy any of their crap if I want to. That was classic. One question though, how did the frogs ever take over Algeria, or was that French already. Ironically, I went to Bien Dien Phu and ran into tons of Frogs. They have special planes that fly the frog tourists in there all the time. At least this time they get to land as opposed to 54' when they jumped out of planes.

The problem with the French isn't that they have their own opinion, it is their back stabbing approach to expressing it. Query too whether their approach is truly reflective of their opinion or whether there are other more sinister motives driving the French position. For example, it has been suggested that the French want to position themselves as a world "power" capable of countering the influence of the U.S.--that the French are upset about the decline of their influence in the world.By stabbing Mr. Powell in the back and suggesting that more inspectors be allowed and that more time be allowed, the French appear to many as a great power willing to take on the Imperialist Americans.Query this: is America truly acting like imperialists? If true, why would we be waiting for the UN to pass a resolution. Don't real Imperialists act without resorting to consultation with the international communities and "allies". That, however, is neither here nor there. The topic is France. France is manipulative and devoid of any true integrity. You don't say one thing and then do another. And when other European countries voice their support for a position contrary to France's (e.g., support for the U.S.), France should not be telling the other countries to shut up and that their candidacy for entry into the EU is in jeopardy for voicing their political views. Isn't France's behavior in this matter similar to that which you're criticizing of us? Hey the Germans and many other countries are as vocal in being against the war as the french, why are they the only ones catching flack.

Again, it is France's approach to the matter which draws ire from the U.S. and its allies. The Germans are cooperating, just not as pubically as the U.S. would like. When the Eastern European countries announced support for the U.S., Chirac said that those countries were behaving childish and have very much harmed their chances to being admitted to the EU for voicing their opinions. No other EU country made such an idiotic statement.Couple this with their back stabbing of Colin Powell and it is easy to see why the U.S. and many others are pissed at France. Hey, France can continue to sell weapons to Iraq, however.

Largely because the Germans and everyone else have said their peace, made their sentiments known, and then backed off to wait for further developments. By doing so, they've allowed the U.S. the ability to quietly open a dialogue with them.

As a result, once the U.S. is done with the inevitable military action, the countries that supported us or at least didn't go out of their way to embarrass us, will be allowed to set up shop in the new Iraq, do the nation building, peacekeeping, refinery building, infrastructure rebuilding, etc.

The trouble with Chirac is that he is an egotist who enjoys the spotlight. If he keeps going, he'll see everyone else in the EU and NATO profit from opportunities in Iraq and France will be shut out.
