Slagowski triple wins at Idaho State Championships 9:36.86, 1:49.36, 4:16.76

He'll be running Saturday at the Pre meet in the National Mile. Some of the guys in the race will be Andrew Wheating, Manzano, and a high school kid from CA (Tamagno?) who should also go under four minutes. Wouldn't be surprised if Spango goes 3:57.

Yeah this isn't that impressive. I could run at least two of those and I run in the NAIA. The 800 is obviously impressive. But that isn't a crazy triple.

It would, however, be interesting to know what he closed in.

Basic,

I have been involved in the sport in some fashion for over fifty years. I would say that Slagowski is one of the more impressive high school talents I have personally witnessed. Smooth and powerful. I think his coaches have been prudent in their guidance.

Check the times for the 8, 16 and 3200.

Idaho has very good depth for a state of it's size, weather conditions and altitude.

I went to high school in Kansas many years ago, and that depth would have dominated the state championships.

Actually we just had the 880 and mile.

I bet if you look there now, the depth is not any better than in Idaho.

Its not that special. Ryan Schweizer won the triple in the Iowa state meet in 1:50.3,4:16,9:16, and he has yet to break 4:10 this year.

I only saw the 3200m and Slagowski was jogging the first six laps of a tactical race. The only athlete that could keep up at the end was an east African refugee from Borah High that ran around 1:54, 4:16, and 9:24 this season as a 10th grader. He will be another one to watch.

I assumed he did, but I'd not want the deluge of criticism if wrong. Slagowski is pretty darn good and not pushed to the extreme, or over hyped, so plenty of upside if managed well.

No, last year 8:50s. The race started in pouring rain, the field was bunched for a very slow first mile. The last 800m was fast, I did not have a time on it. Last year went in about 8:50, that chap won the Mountain West 10k a week or two ago. The winner from 2014 ran 8:52 during the season, I believe he ran 13:50 as a sophomore at Boise State.

Slagowski is pretty good, that is all I can say. Probably quite a bit better than some high school athletes over the last decade. Obvious statement from his times, but he is something special which will be evident soon enough.

Why would this even need to be said? Nearly everyone in the world is better than "some" high school athletes. What in the world did you mean by this?

You can stop saying this stuff. We all know that he is good, we don't need you to qualify it for us. We watched him run a sub-4 in an all HS race, and he is faster than everyone in HS history in the 800/Mile together except Webb and Ryun. So stop talking. We don't need that explained.
