Boulder is closed for service wrote:Did anyone see this twitter exchange between Lee Troop and one of the pace coaches for a local running group. Apparently, the track in Boulder everyone works out on, pros and recreational runners, is now closed to the public because the recreational group would show up with way too many people and clog up all the lanes. Pretty interesting exchange:
https://twitter.com/runtroopy/status/730252066573012993see my thread below on this type of behavior.
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=7233934priority should always be given to faster workouts and tracks really shouldn't be used for jogging unless warming up where the outer lanes should be used. Why do some people have so much trouble understanding this?
Sorry this is BS. why should priority be given to "faster" workout and shouldn't be used for jogging. While I agree that jogging on a track seems kinda dumb (especially considering the abundance of soft surfaces in boulder) why does on public group have any more right to a track than others. - They don't. Many of the elites don't even live in boulder and just train there. It's the locals who's tax money goes to fund the schools and the track.
If any thing the locals should have priority over people who come in to train. (and I know some elites do live in boulder)
People need to know how to follow the rules of the track and the tracks should be limited to a certain # of people.
Also, While the public pays for the track is is for the school's use. Just because the public pays for the schools library does that give anyone a right to go in and start reading? No.
The extra people are certainly causing excessive wear and tear so it appears that payment and reserving times would be a sensible solution.

You are talking about 45-60+ minute drives. Might work to get through the trials but it's not viable.
Golden is 20-30 min tops. Plus you have other schools in louisville/Lafayette.
Plus it's not like these elites have jobs to go to. they can drive to the workouts.
Pretty absurd that one group would bring 80 athletes to the track to jog around it in the first place. There are plenty of trails in Boulder that would probably be more enjoyable and safer for them to jog on, unless this Revolution Running group is also refusing to pay for a trail permit due to its group's size. It's amazing that for as big of a running culture that there is in Boulder, there aren't more track options available to the public and that one recreational group can create such havoc for the entire community.

What do you mean elites don't have jobs?? North Boulder to Golden is at least 40 minutes. But thank you for your input.

Revolution Running got everyone banned. They are a large (not sure of exact numbers but maybe 100-200 people) for profit running group. The administration was upset that they jumped the locked gates, go to the bathroom in plain sight behind the bleachers and tried to break into the locked bathrooms. They pretty much ignored every rule and show no respect for the track.
Untrue.
"Is this Troop guy"
Jebus, you never heard of Lee Troop? How about Steve Jones?
"The Boulder Track Club’s High Performance Team goal under coach Lee Troop is to provide training and racing guidance, support and knowledge in a professional and controlled environment for athletes to achieve their national and international racing goals."
How about the hobby jogger club. What's their national and international goal - to run a 7 minute mile?
Sean Quigley who was coached by Troop
Half Marathon 1:02:46 Houston (USA) 19.01.2014
Marathon 2:13:30 Fukuoka (JPN) 07.12.2014
Those are the reasons they locked the track.
Where does Emma Coburn train then? The CU track?
Your wrong bucko. This is LetsRun.

However this Lee Troop character is in the wrong because he improperly used the word "Your" when he meant "You're" or "you are" on the internet, and is therefore in the wrong. His argument is therefore invalidated.

This. There is a public HS in my town that charges something really low, like $75 for a 2-Hour session and it just basically covers a school security guard. I think it has to be during a certain time (when the team is not practicing). It would be kind of pricey if you just wanted to run on your own, but it is next to nothing for a running group doing track workouts. I think it is a good idea.
Not sure that I like this idea so much. Public facilities (parks, tracks, etc) should not be charging for use.
In my area the parks with grass fields allow organizations to reserve the fields and the city charges them for this. The result is that the parks are now largely private parks, reserved at nearly all convenient hours.
Further, the folks reserving them are the rich soccer clubs. The poor folks in town are just shit out of luck - no parks and very limited field availability for the soccer teams for their kids.

How is that relevant to the issue? It's not
Troopy is another damn transplant who think he's more important than the locals.
Easy solution. If the track is in use, just do intervals on the roads. It worked for Seb Coe. Don't get runners banned from the track. Share it.

Of course he is. You local yokel hobby joggers should get out of the way
This Rob Vermillion guy is out of control. Not even apologetic about his group blowing it for everyone. What a douche
Thanks a lot hobby jogging lane clogging track hoggers
Hey, Nicky Dicky, it looks like Vermilion is a outsider too.
"A graduate of Colorado State University, Vermillion was a three-time conference champion in the 800m and 1500m on the track while earning Academic All-American Honors. After he graduated college, he raced as a professional athlete competing for the Nike Farm Team in Palo Alto, CA and Oregon Track Club Elite in Eugene, OR. Alongside his racing career at the OTC, he received his MBA with an emphasis in Sports Marketing from the University of Oregon. Upon receiving his professional degree, he served as the Executive Director and Marketing Director of the Oregon Track Club where he helped bring about a renaissance in Eugene’s endurance scene through the rebranding of Track Town, USA – a moniker recognized worldwide, identifying Eugene as a global mecca for Track and Field"
Question, did he do any branding for our man AlSal.
What kind of branding does he do for the herd of lane cloggers.
Hey, did Vermilion ever race Lee Troop at 5000 meters?
