If you're a second behind the rabbit at 2:48, you're right on pace for a 3:31, so you may as well draft if you're going to run that fast.

Yes, it's early. But you will probably need to be able to run two or three rounds near 3:30 to medal in August. So running one in the season opener probably won't ruin the top guys.

Have you ever considered possibility that athlete's life mission does not revolve entirely around the olympics? Taking a guaranteed payday and opportunity to draft your way to a pr seems pretty smart to me.

No matter how much you build your base for the olympics there are are no guarantees in three rounds of championship racing. See Ryun 72, Coe 80, morcelli 92, el g 96, kiprop 12. If you are invited to a big payday and are healthy you go, race, and move on.

Jackson Kivuva has showed a willingness and an ability to be a second rabbit. He did it last year for Kiprop in Monaco and also did it for Rushida in the 800 when he ran 1:41:01 in Rieti, though in fairness Rudisha blew by him before they hit 600.

Exactly, in some countries an Olympic medal is worth nothing or nearly nothing in dollar terms or even kudos terms, a case of well done but who cares.

Exactly. Modern runners are so coddled. I raced at the Elite level and we would do travel for major 1500s 2 weeks before a big event. It HELPED.

In 2012, Kiplagat and Kiprop ran 3:29 in Doha on May 11.

They didn't medal in London.

In 2013 Kiprop won Doha in 3:31 and went on to win Gold at WCs.

Kiprop and Kiplagat again both ran 3:29 in Doha in 2014.

It doesn't look like there was a Doha 1500 last year.

Any athlete who ran World Indoors probably took a week off, then a week of easy running and headed off to HA camp. Most of top U.S. MD athletes who ran World Indoors, won't race seriously until early May.
